If you follow current news and events to any degree, you would no doubt have heard commentary on the country of China. Common comments include: "The Sleeping Dragon," "This Is The Chinese Century," "CHINA WILL GROW LARGER" etc...
If you used your brain to any degree, you would also realize that China has, in fact, been growing in influence, whether it's financially, economically, politically, culturally or socially.
And if you surfed the Internet to any degree, you would also realize the growing number of English-speaking Internet Chinese nationalists (living locally or foreign) whose job (voluntary or paid) is to talk up China's achievements and/or downplay China's flaws and more questionable actions. These individuals and/or groups are most commonly found on Internet message boards/forums, the comment section of China-related blogs, news portal sites and YouTube. You may even have engaged in debate and discussion with these people before.
"So what?" you ask. "They're no different from your typical Pro-American or Pro-British. And if we're talking about paid services, or even the Pro-Russians."
Well no, by itself, Internet Chinese nationalists aren't exactly noteworthy, no. But. And there's always a but.
But... in these heated Internet discussions, debates and arguments, there is an imbalance. I call this phenomenon "The Chinese Imbalance of Views Syndrome" (or CIVS).
THE SEARCH FOR TRUTH AND JUSTICE
In any debate, there would usually be two sides. In a more complex issue, there may even be a third or fourth side. Any good argument would involve a side offering well-reason arguments and the other side would respond directly to the argument with a hopefully, just as well-reasoned counter-argument. Inevitably, any side would make criticisms about the arguments from the other side. Criticism is good. As long as we are opened minded, criticisms allows us to look at the mistakes in our own faulty arguments. We would then revise our views until we come up with a more well-rounded argument in our continual search for truth and justice.
Freedom of speech and expression is therefore a powerful tool. When we use our civil right to freedom of speech and expression in the right way, we can point out the flaws and faults of our society, criticize those who make it happen or enable it to happen, and ultimately, improve the wellbeing of society. We can even use this right to criticize OTHER countries at the same time. And so we should. To solve problems, we must identify the problem. To make the problem known, we make it public by criticizing. Injustices and atrocities occur daily, whether it's in our hometown or the town of a country on the other side of the world.
Which brings me to the continual debate about China vs The Western World.
This debate is healthy for the international community because everyone has the right to freedom of speech to identify problems in their own nation and in other nations. Right?
THE IMBALANCE SYNDROME

-Any references in the media are blocked from appearing in the first place (The media industry is a monopoly and the Chinese government owns it)
-Anti-China protests are shut down quickly and forcibly, even peaceful non-violent ones.
-Actively criticizing China or the Chinese government may have negative social consequences. Like in other Asian societies, there is less focus on individualism (which America prefers) and more on collectivism ("The nail that sticks up must be hammered down"). So the critic may be "hammered down" metaphorically by his/her own community and be branded a traitor to China.
-Possible penalties for those who are seen as a threat to the Chinese government or its interests include being arrested, being "re-educated" or worse.
-Higher profile Chinese dissidents (people who challenge establishments like the Chinese government) are arrested http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Chinese_dissidents. Worst case scenario, they are tortured and executed.
-Last but not least, the Chinese government can not be voted out. Alternative political parties are also illegal to form. This means government accountability and transparency is difficult to achieve.Along with the fact that criticizing China/Chinese government is heavily discouraged and the media , it means it is hard to make the government transparent or accountable.
THE SYMPTOMS
So what do I mean "The Chinese Imbalance of Views Syndrome"?
Simple. The combination of:
-censored Internet
-government-controlled media (with no alternative)
-government-controlled political system (with no alternative),
-the social outcasting and the arresting of the more active dissidents
means that Chinese people are born and raised with one certain view and the past, current and future factors in their lives means that alternative views are hard to come by. So in the end, they only have one view, because that is the only view the Chinese government wants them to have, and that's the view they'll ever have and since they're so set on that view, they assume it is the right one. What I'm trying to say is that they don't know if their view is right or wrong because they never had a chance to compare it with other, possibly opposing views. The factors above perpetuate the lack of opposing views. If they are lucky or skilled enough to find, consider and compare other opposing views, and even take the opposing view for him/herself, the factors above mean that they are heavily discouraged from having that view in public.
And that, my friends, is the imbalance that needs to be known, recognized and addressed.
To use an simplified extreme example, in America no-one is heavily discouraged from having a certain view. A person who has no view can, and I remind you this is a simplied and extreme example, consider the opinions of Bill O'Reilly and on the "other side", they can consider the opinions of Michael Moore. Based on what they learn, they can join a side. Or they can remain neutral and seek more information until they are convinced that there is a right side. A person who already has a view can do the same thing. This is freedom of speech and expression. Where people are free to make their opinions heard without fear of reprisal and where people are free to consider or ignore the opinion.
This is not the case with China. You can be anti-American, you can be anti-British, you can be anti-French, you can be anti-apples and anti-oranges. Just don't be anti-China/Chinese/Chinese Government.
This situation creates the imbalance and as long as this imbalance exists, then we can never have a fruitful debate with Chinese people.
FIGHT FOR THE TRUTH, BECAUSE THE TRUTH CAN'T FIGHT FOR THEMSELVES
What is the solution? I don't really have one. And even if I did, it would be too complicated to right here. However, to end this article, I will leave you with a quote:

I assume you live in a relatively free country and that you have the access to freedom of speech and expression and you have the ability to give and receive opinions.
Consider those opinions and strengthen your arguments by ironing out the flaws in your continue search for truth and justice.
As for the internet Chinese nationalists, if you see one that makes an argument that has an obvious lie, mistruth, falsehood, hyperbole, distortion, deception, misrepresentation, falsehood, selective quoting or is misleading, then do something, not nothing. Point out the flaws and attack the argument.
I can understand assholes: Everyone has them because it is part of our bodies and we need to defecate what we eat to survive.
I don't understand why everyone has opinions though. I understand even less why people think their opinion is RIGHT. Do people understand personal preferences and the definition of subjectivity?

Listen to this, 'cause it's the most important thing you will ever hear about China when it comes to comparing it to the USA. Now I'll leave you with a story to illustrate my point. I used to live in a small town in northern China at the end of a toll road that the Central Government had built some years before. They had given the same line that the US and state governments use, that being: when the road is paid for, we'll stop collecting tolls. Just like in the US, that time came and went and the toll booths remained. The locals complained and complained but the booths remained, so one night several hundred folks got together, took some heavy equipment, asked the toll collectors politely to exit the booths, and then ripped them out of the road. Then they all went home. The PLA was on alert and present, but did nothing. Though the booths were never put back up, I will say that as yet, they still haven't fixed the road, so you still have to drive carefully through where the booths were.

According to my discussions with the average American, they say that America stands for freedom and our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are morally just: We are bring peace and democracy to the people.

Should freedom of speech be given to those whose aim is to shut down freedom of speech? Allow me to illustrate a few examples:
A religionist. A religionist is a person who subscribes to a religion whether that is Christianity or Islam.
Let's say we give freedom of speech to that religionist. That religionist becomes the leader of the country. What will he do? He will make criticism against religions illegal and he will enforce subjective morals based on his religion such as the killing of gay people and concentration camps for atheists.
By giving freedom of speech to someone who doesn't value freedom, civil liberty-wise, we are worse off.
Another example: A china/Chinese government supporter.
Let's say we give freedom of speech to the ChiCom and the ChiCom becomes the leader of the country. Will he do? He will make criticisms against the government illegal and he will do his best to shut down any kind of dissenting voice.
What is the solution to this conundrum?

This is a very interesting contrast between white and Japanese culture.

See, I am civil libertarian. I believe in human rights and civil rights. These include reasonable freedom of speech, no government-enforced censorship, and reasonably unrestricted media and a free internet.
My problem is that institutions like the government, whether its the US government or the Chinese government are corrupt. Corporations are not necessarily corrupt, they just want more and more money. Because the government is corrupt, they are happy to accept donations from companies and to fuck the people over.
Where China comes into this is that their form of society is the type of society that OUR (american) government wants. Endless propaganda, censorship everywhere, and an obedient sheep-like public. If any nail sticks up, the self-enforced guardians of the status quo will proceed to hammer them down.
The big issue is that corporations, due to their love of money, are sucking the cocks of China and the Chinese government.
So right now we import Chinese-made products, but my concern is that over time, we will being importing Chinese-style totalitarianism, Chinese-style censorship, Chinese-style lack of fundamental civil liberties, and Chinese-style restricted internet.
And these will be welcomed by our American governments and American corporations because this means that the balance of power will swing away from us the public and towards the institutions. With the above limits, we the public continue our spiral downwards to stupidity and apathy.
Now, the government and corporations and the rich ruling elite can do whatever they want without accountability and transparency.
And we, due to censorship in the media and internet, publically broadcast propaganda and self-enforced guardians of the status quo, ensures that no-one has the ability to speak out.

One thing that has always amazed me about China (and everyone else for that matter, mostly businesses and politicians) is the sheer size of their population.

At the moment, the Chinese population is 1.4 BILLION.
Let me put that in numbers:
Chinese population: 1,400,000,000
American population: 303,824,640
USA population is only 20% of the Chinese population. Or to put it another way, Chinese population is almost 5 times greater.
This is scary for 2 reasons:
1) This is the Chinese population that has had a 1-child policy YET THERE'S STILL SO MANY OF THEM!
2) The majority of the Chinese population is poor. If the majority of the Chinese population had the living standards of an average American, we might as well say goodbye to Earth.
Can any historians here explain how so many Chinks came into existence like this in the first place? Did they have a "fuck like rabbits" social lifestyle in the past?
I guess that pretty much explains why the Chinese government wants to exploit Africa's resources (Western governments are ignoring Africa) while migrating Chinks to live in Africa.

I hate politicians. The job of a politician is to be as popular as possible and to do their best not to offend the majority (who are potential voters).
I hate politicians because I hate the majority.
But Ron Paul is one of the few politicians who actually might NOT be evil. As a person who places great importance in civil human rights, he resonates with me. When he speaks about civil rights, it sounds exactly like what I would say if I had the same eloquence and succinct language.
But Ron Paul is not perfect and I would like him to improve in the following areas:
1) Ron Paul is a religionist.
I would very much like Ron Paul to "return" to being an atheist but this is America where people hate atheists more than they hate sandniggers. At the very least, I hope Ron Paul can be a pretend religionist until he can be an atheist when the anti-atheism sentiment dies down.
2) He is anti-Abortion.
Human life is worthless and tiny non-humans even more so. But he is pro-Choice in the wider sense so that is okay. As long as he doesn't force people NOT to have the choice of abortion.
3) He may or may not be a racist.
This is based on his associations with white supremacist organizations and he of all people, should treat any race supremacist the same way: with ridicule. Again, he is for civil rights for all races, so this shouldn't be too much of an issue.
4) Relax a bit. Not all gay people are out to get you.
I'm taking about Bruno. While I was disappointed that Bruno (Sacha Baron Cohen) picked on Ron Paul in the Bruno movie, I was even more disappointed with Ron Paul's response. It reeks a little of sexual insecurity and the overly masculine "I SHOULDVE SMASHED YOUR HEAD IN FAG!" (he said something about hurting someone) caveman response. Ron Paul should've just said "Nah, I don't swing that way" instead and take it in his stride. This is more of a reflection of the wider homophobe (Bible belt) American society than Ron Paul himself though.
Let's say we give the right to freedom of speech to Chinese people (as we do now).

this is what i don't understand. asians have had plenty of thier own geniuses in the past and the present yet they didn't make a lot of strides even in basic living improvements such as modern sanitation etc compared to today's standards. a genius with an iq over 150+ can easily know or even figure this out themselves and there are asian geniuses that have iq's over 200, today and in the past. this is why i don't understand why asia was so stagnant for so long. it doesn't make sense. even now, there is a korean guy with an iq over 200 and he really hasn't done much. he's rather a recluse. it's probably a complicated subject and issue but it does seem to raise questions and an eyebrow because the resources intellectually were there within the society. the citing of creativity is not really relevant because smart people do tend to think innovatively anyways and can figure this out for themselves easily or notice where or how things can be improved etc even if they can't get others to understand or cooperate.

A good conspiracy theory is something that has a basis in reality. While we have absolutely no proof or little proof, we can come up with a fair conclusion based on understanding the people involved and their possible motives. For example, a pharmaceutical company might get its drugs banned in America for being unsafe. We theorize that it is possible that the company is selling these same banned drugs to another country, risking many lives in pursuit of profit.
A bad conspiracy theory is that Earth is ruled by lizardpeople and the president is a lizardman in disguise.

I do know how emotive the whaling issue is to some people (anyone who is racist against Japanese people) so I will do my best to be objective (lulz).
Problem #1: Some species of whales are endangered.
Solution: Let's hunt the species of whales that AREN'T endangered.
Problem #2: It takes a long time for a whale to die, thus prolonging suffering.
Solution: Let's invent a weapon that can kill whales in 3 seconds. Maybe a fast-acting injection or a mini nuclear bomb.
Problem #3: Compared to farm animals, whale populations are slow to grow.
Solution: At the beginning, there's not many whales but let's clone whales and then get them to breed with each other. With the exponential rule, the whale population will continue growing faster than before. Thus, even endangered whales will become unendangered.
You know how wholescale farms breed and kill cows, pigs and chickens by the millions? My goal is to have sustainable whale farms that can kill millions of whales "humanely" (as humane as killing cows, pigs and chickens).
Like a normal cow/pig/chicken killing farm. Except it's for whales.

Most people, or at least anyone with even a tiny shred of empathy, would agree that non-human animal suffering is something that should be avoided. This is because non-human animals feel pain. We humans, or at least anyone with even a tiny shred of empathy, wouldn't do something to non-human animals (inflicting pain and torture) that we wouldn't do to ourselves (inflicting pain and torture). Because we feel pain too.
