It will come naturally, you'll start off telling the truth, then gradually furnish it with a little white lie over time, then before you know it a few months down the line you are inventing middle earth.
If you really are this bad with social stuff, go to a doctors and get on the sick. I know someone who got on sickness benefit years ago with anxiety under WORK PHOBIA, no troll.

Indeed, though they're not too pleased. I'm in a very working class family.

They can't be that working class if they are putting up with this...at least show willing and go to the Doctors as mentioned. Those guys aren't scary like the dole, they want to help you. Plus, you don't have to sign on, you just hand a sick note in when you feel like it. Eventually you only have to do it every six months/a year. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety a few years ago and I am currently on fluoxetine. I skipped most of the psychiatrist's appointments so she ended them. I recently went to my GP as per my parents' suggestion, and I saw a social worker who said she would probably refer me for a proper evaluation.
Talking to her made it clear they don't want to help me; rather they want to assess whether I'm a risk to myself or others. Any sort of empathy simply doesn't factor into the equation.

I appreciate your advice, thank you.

Dude, in the vernacular of chavdom, you should be rinsing the fuck out of these geezers. Not only should you be on a massive disability payment, but yo could probably also get your Mother to receive carers allowance as well. Talk to them and spin it how if you had more money for yourself it would enable you to get out of the house more. Make up some bullshit about wanting to go to the video arcade or something (showing my age here...maybe you should say local LAN gaming coffeeshop or something. I dunno, but there will be something).

It will take less than five minutes to do to get your sicknote. They'll probably sign it to shut you up. Say you need it to pay your parents money towards bills...even with my flaky excuses (granted, I was on fluexotin too, but I didn't take the pills other than recreationaly. I accepted the prescription to enhance my case).

Just say you want a sick note. The guy will just sign you one. Seriously, less than five minutes work. Then take it down to the job centre and say you're signing onto disability allowance.

I wish I could go with you to help, because I am a jedi fucking master at dealing with the dole after being on it for years (although not currently). The doctors part is easy though, and once you have that note, the rest is too. It's only really hard to deal with the dole if they expect you to get a job.

You confused the beginning with that of another song, which is what struck me most (in the original there are no chords, only a 3 note solo). Leaving that aside and the shitty quality of your microphone, great stuff.

On a related note, I've been wondering -- isn't there a way to adaptively measure the noise and unwanted modulations/resonances that a [microphone]+[acquisition board] pair adds to a signal and then produce a filter that attempts to undo that effect? To partly answer my own question, that would probably require a speaker for which the added noise/modulation/resonance must already be known (but to obtain that data you would need a calibrated or very high quality microphone), or a really high-quality speaker. So basically, I suppose it's a chicken-and-egg problem.

The beginning I actually realise now is me playing the intro twice round instead of once, it's not from a different song. Yeah, the microphone is shit, I'm just using my netbook's built in one.

If you're on about noise cancellation, then the first thing that comes to mind is the way that people remove the vocals from tunes they want to sample, either to keep the vocals or the accappella. What you do is find a section of the song without the vocals, and invert the signal. Then add this to the section with the vocals, and the waves basically cancel each other out, leaving what was different in the second part. I guess you could use something like that (just blueskying here). Oh wait, you're not talking about hiss, you're talking about static from buzzy wires etc...well maybe you could do the same thing  have a recording of just the static then invert it and try that stuff...you would have to zoom in as far as fuck to the very millisecond to line it up though, and in fact I suspect that wouldn't work at all becaquse I'm talking out of my arse.

Obviously won't work, for very obvious reasons (adding one random noise to the negation of another random noise will get you *surprise surprise* more random noise). The adaptive part of my post means that the "high quality" speaker plays various sounds/samples and compares that to what the microphone receives, trying to inference as much as possible about the various frequency response curves and acoustics of the microphone. Sure, it can't be perfect, but it'll be better than shit.

It's the only microphone in the house that can pick up me playing and singing at the same time, the other way to record is using the vocal mic I have, and recording the guitar separately. I'd prefer to do things all at once for more of a live feel...besides, this isn't going on itunes or anything, it's just a scratchpad to show people here.

Yeah, I guess if the noise is purely random it wouldn't work. I've tried removing hiss with parametric EQ's before, but most of the time it affects the rest of the bandwidth too. You can correct around it a little though, and get something better than you started with.

Well, I just looked up that song...beautiful...the guy uses a capo I think (look it up if you don't know) to play it, and I think I've left mine at my folks, making this double hard bastard level to play without it. I reckon I'll be able to do it though...the verse isn't just your normal chords strumming, some really hard shapes (well, without a capo anyway), and that's given me the most trouble, but again I think I've got it. Just going to need to remember vocal melody now...when I said I can pick up a song straight away, I meant the chords, and I did know a "bluff" version of it straight away. I've almost memorised the vocals too though...but I reckon if I haven't got it down in the next twenty minutes it will be too late for me to record it, neighbours etc.

Don't have any rubber bands here man...

I ended up recording it in a different key instead to get round that, which kinda threw me a little as it confused me with the vocal changes. Also, I was trying to sing it quietly so as not to bother the neighbours, which means my voice is a little weaker. It's past 11pm now so I can't do a better take.
