Some people, when confronted with a cover request/challenge, think "oh I know, I'll just use my netbook's internal microphone". Now they have one problem , but it's a really big one
It's the only microphone in the house that can pick up me playing and singing at the same time, the other way to record is using the vocal mic I have, and recording the guitar separately. I'd prefer to do things all at once for more of a live feel...besides, this isn't going on itunes or anything, it's just a scratchpad to show people here.
Yeah, I guess if the noise is purely random it wouldn't work. I've tried removing hiss with parametric EQ's before, but most of the time it affects the rest of the bandwidth too. You can correct around it a little though, and get something better than you started with.
