So, if you want me to acknowledge these things, fine.  I WILL.  I will acknowledge the flaws of the past.  But I already made my decisions knowing the past was flawed somehow, so it doesn't impact anything about the decisions I've made.  You don't live a good life by regretting or acting upon every mistake ever made by your ancestors.  That's a self-made prison.

The main point I was driving at, was how propaganda-driven us-vs-them imagery can get real dumb real quick if you don't pay attention. In the long run, that's only gonna bite us all in the ass.

I mean, it's all well and good to focus on how and why your Enemy is Evil, but there's a point where it just gets ridiculous. One oft-cited example is anti-German propaganda during WWI.

There's also how the greatest hatred seems to be between groups that cannot live with how similar they are. Nazis vs Commies, right-wing Christians vs Islamists, etc.
Keeping this in mind can be rather revealing at times. Like the Soviets teaching their kids about the evilness of Nazi Germany...


I'm also not asking for anyone to be held accountable for mistakes of past generations, I'm asking that we keep this in mind the next time some propaganda machine starts going "$WE are the squeaky clean ones, $THEY are Everything That's Bad And Evil In The Universe". Not only will they be they gearing up for a war we don't actually want, but they're also most likely covering something up.
