The holocaust happened

We have too many people in prison
The free market needs regulations
Guns are dangerous and should be banned
A woman should be able to have an abortion
Free healthcare has worked for France
Iran getting a nuclear bomb would be dangerous
Prostitution is harmful to women

A government that is a) competent and b) not corrupt, would have recognized the scam for what it was, and put its foot down so hard it would measure on the Richter Scale.

It would then have used its means intelligently; say, buying up the important bits of industry etc in the resulting bankruptcy sales, gone through the books thoroughly for any dotted t's an crossed i's, to use as evidence in resulting trials. There's been swindling going on; by definition, that means there's culprits to be found.


But no, let's not have people that are _both_ competent _and_ non-corrupt anywhere near government, shall we?

Over here, taxation doubles as health insurance. You get sick, you have an "insurance company" that does _not_ first spend silly resources trumping up excuses for not helping you. You get the help you need, no questions asked. Except "where does it hurt"…

("Over here" isn't France, however. Here, our dear leaders are going way too far the other way, and seem to find it a good idea to have people stuck in queues for years. And don't you _dare_ try private hospitals, that's "jumping the queue" or something. And don't you dare mention that those _behind_ you in line now get one step closer to that elusive hospital bed.)
