Translation of >>1: I was forced to learn an effectively-dead language which doesn't even have an open or free compiler available anywhere.
I really wish I had learned Lisp or Ocaml instead, or at least I would if I wasn't lame.
So what is the point of this language? What compelling features does it have? Why should I care?

Designed for computer science instruction, Turing is simply the easiest, most fun, and most effective way of teaching programming concepts.
Just ask MIT! They use... er, Scheme.

Show me how quicksort looks implemented in this language. And an efficient priority queue. It should be good at those things, right?

Scheme and Lisp programming are both used for AI programming. Also, they were both created from Limbada Calculus. SERIAL EXPERMIANTS LAIN REFERENCE!

didnt say it was a great language, i am just saying anyone ever heard of it,
i agree with alot of you this language is dead, there is no free compiler, the homepage for turing is shit the only people whod buy it is schools, and yes Alan Turing was a fag wich is why he killed himself
and i also agree with one more of you, turing is a fun language, so easy to learn and a lot of fun to play with
and one more thing yes some people are forced to learn it like i am, i am a grade 10 student in ontario canada, i took a grade 10 programing course and we are forced to learn this outdated language, but no worry i have all the turing assignments already done, how u say i got them, my dumbass teacher shared her hardrive with the rest of the class so we could go get a file and in that time i managed to copy the part of the drive that is hers and she has all the files saved from last years class.
I've done some independent research on it in the past. It's pretty cool stuff. :)

When I watched Lain I was going through a bad time with Scheme. I'd started having actual nightmares in Scheme. Then a bunch of Scheme code scrolled past in a Lain episode and I flipped out. Much to the surprise of my anime club...

Screw Turing. You need to learn Java. Or C(++). Skillz in either of those will get you the (only) hot CS chick in your faculty when you move on to university after 2 years.

Because the hot chick can't get her head around Java and constantly needs help with her code. I know :)

After you finish her 20 hours project, the hot chicks says "thanks!" more or less fast so she won't overdo it, makes a cute face with the palm of her hand on her mouth, and runs to fuck her jerk and rapist of the week. If you're lucky enough, she'll come to cry on your shoulder for a period of time after she's been fucked and before she's going to fuck again.
