I do know that the US has decided that the attack on the Liberty was accidental, and that there was a series of documented communications errors leading up to that unfortunate incident. I also know that dozens of US soldiers have died from friendly fire in Iraq, and recognize that the probability of that happening is even greater when observing a battle between two other nations, as communication between the watchers and watched is less expedient and regulated than between two soldiers of the same army.
I also don't see why Israel would see the need to resort to such desperate measures to gain US support in Egypt. The six day war was won in six days. Hence the name. Israel went into that war knowing it couldn't lose. Why risk such an important alliance (with the USA) to frame a country that they could easily take care of by themselves? If the Liberty incident had occurred during a more desperate conflict, I might see your reasoning. As it is, however, it just doesn't make sense.
