The funny thing is that the person that retorts is actually ashamed of themselves of this repressed human trait hence the anger. Just start an argument with anyone about something that you may or potentially could do and watch the shock on their face. This is the first sign of shame. Anger, denial, or even an attempt to dodge or deflate the remarks are often the remarks of peoples repressed human traits that they have lost track of and become ignorant to.
