Why does the US support Israel?

I can't think of any advantages to the US supporting Israel, but I can think of a whole bunch of disadvantages.

So why are people pushing for "two and three state solutions" instead of a one state solution? Get rid of the borders at the Gaza Strip and West Bank and let people go wherever the hell they want.
