Heres a suggestion.

An option to automatically hide threads created by posters utilizing tripcodes.  In addition to this option, possibly add a sub-option that allows this to be enabled globally or for specific boards.

Since most people don't actually use the subject field and most post anonymously (at least on /r9k/), I have a bunch of entries in my thread watcher that are identical. It would be nice if there was some way to add a short comment or description so I could actually tell them apart.

if i am on a page with 1 unhidden thread, I WANT TO SEE ONLY THAT THREAD.

I ask because I don't like posting in a thread just to see how many posts/images there are, nor do I like to count them. I don't expect this to be put in ever, it's just something I'd like to see.

Computer programs do not write themselves. You should be responsible for YOURSELF. This means that it is YOU that needs to find a programmer when you have a software requirement. They only cost $200 an hour where I come from. And yes, this is the true cost of computer programming. Either pay up, do it yourself or go away.

Apologies if this has already been suggested, but is there any chance of for the Thread Watcher, having a manual label as well as the automatically filled one, or manual fill in if there is no thread title?
It's a bit difficult to tell the difference between numerous watched threads when most people don't name their threads.

If he does it with dillo then he has to do it with opera also because there are many more opera users because opera is so fast and stable and it uses WAY less RAM than other leading browsers

Because some people think firefox is better but they obviously don't know everything you need to know about operating a browser

Name: Anonymous 2008-06-09 10:24

look at the not4chan image grabber... implement something like that into the 4chan extension while adding another image naming option.  people tend to post pictures numbered 01, 02, 03, etc... this causes the n4c extension to not take the picture.  Just make it so it saves it with the name the image board gives it... if that makes any sense

NEED dynamic domain responce option of weather right-click menu is active.

I turn it off cause im sick of all the right-click bloat but it would be great while in 4chan. If js could edit about:config(which it cannot for obvious reasons) i would do it in greasemonkey and it would be easy.

Feature request:

An option to combine all threads from different boards in the thread watcher, with an additional field indicating which board each thread is from.

Rationale: I'd like to be able to jump to a thread I'm watching without having to click that board first. Additionally, I don't like having to click through each board to check whether or not I'm watching anything that I've forgotten about.

Feature request:

When the subject field is empty, the thread watcher ought to grab the first few dozen characters of the OP's poster instead.

Rationale: Hardly anybody uses the subject field, and having a dozen blank entries to click through kind of sucks.

Since the boards have speeded up, I'm losing a lot more pictures to the bit-bucket when I post faster than the 45-second flood-detection. When I use the extension, I get no feedback about this.

So, either, is there a way to feedback the board responses, e.g. 'flood detected' 'Picture foo.jpg posted successfully' to the extension; or is it possible to put a timer on, locking the submit button if less than 45 seconds have passed since the previous post?

I like using my tabs with fierce efficiency, and if I have to shut down my PC, the tabs are remembered. I actually do use the older script for automatic noko though, that's actually quite useful!

It never seems to be addressed.

Here's an idea: make the extension automatically change posting times by a specified number of hours so I can stop subtracting 3 from every single timestamp I look at. Might as well include an option to make it 12-hour time instead of 24-hour while you're at it.

I wrote a greasemonkey script to do exactly this, but I have no way of applying it to posts I expand after the page has loaded, without editing the extension myself.

this is what i use

var form = document.evaluate("child::form", document.body, null, 8, null).singleNodeValue

form.addEventListener('DOMNodeInserted', function(e){if(e.target.nodeName=='TABLE') SOME_FUNCTION(e.target.getElementsByClassName('reply')[0])}, true)

I'm thinking of making a script with a bunch of little text hacks, one of which would be time change.

I don't know if it's a bug or not, but restarting Firefox will sometimes delete all of my saved thread. It's random too; sometimes all of the thread will be intact, while other times it would be completely obliterated.

You might be wondering what's the point in keeping old, 404'd threads. Some /h/ threads have the titles of doujins in the subject field, and being the lazy faggot I am, I keep at least the titles in order to search for them at a later date.

.5.13 is working rather nicely. I have 2 suggestions though.
* The option to disable ads. I am sick of trying to post on /gif/ and /b/ and have text from the ad overlap into the post.
* Unclutter the mess a bit. It is awkward to have the watched thread list at the very top of the page. Maybe have it auto-scroll?

Whenever I click on the (javascript) link to display an image's EXIF information, the EXIF data display expands during the time "loading..." is displayed above the data-column.
As soon as loading is finished, the EXIF stuff collapses again.
When clicking the display link a second time it stays open.

I had this with earlier versions of the plugin as well as with earlier versions of FF.

The TW keeps randomly forgetting the threads it was supposed to be watching. I thought this latest update would fix it but it still keeps forgetting the threads.

I tried to revert back to one of the older versions of the TW but I keep running into "4chan 0.4.3.1 will not be installed because it does not provide secure updates." And changing the "extensions.checkUpdateSecurity" (boolean) value in about:config to false doesn't appear to be working in Firefox 3.5. (Though with a little more googling I should be able to find a way to install it.) I'm just wondering why the latest two versions of the TW keeps forgetting my threads.

How to reproduce the problem? It seems to occur randomly whenever I close Firefox. Again, it's very random. Sometimes it does and other times it doesn't.

Firefox v3.5.5
OS: Vista
zip.4chan.org

Note to self: Never under any circumstances update things unless you need to. Had I stayed with TW v4.3 none of this would have ever happened.

Disregard the second paragraph. Editing "extensions.checkUpdateSecurity" worked, but the 4chan TW v0.4.3.1 wasn't compatible with Firefox 3.5.5.

Does anybody know where I can find the versions between 4.3.1 and 4.5.12? The latest two versions suffer from amnesia.

I think I understand why the 4chan filter keeps forgetting threads. It has something to do with the thread watcher page: chrome://4chan/content/ThreadWatch.html

If you delete too much while on this page, the thread watcher will randomly decide to forget some of the threads you've watched. At least that's the case, on Vista. Check the code on that page and make sure there's no bugs.

Not if you're a noob like me.

It is the latest code, but it isn't working properly under Opera 9.27 and Opera 10, the hide function isn't working and there's always a javascript popup after I post a reply.

I don't see how just changing the "old" url (it is the same *.4chan.org) would fix this.

Name: Fuck 2009-12-23 19:33

Rename 4chan.v0.4.5.14.xpi to 4chan.v0.4.5.14.zip

Unzip to a folder.

Open 4chanCom.js in the components folder with Notepad.

Change img. to images.

Save and exit.

Create new zip with contents of extracted files and folders (Not the folder you extract to but it's contents).

Rename back to 4chan.v0.4.5.14.xpi

Drag to Firefox window and install.

?????

Profit!

er, the only references to img. in the code are comments, and that change makes no sense anyway.

Is there actually anything broken relating to the change to move all images to the images.4chan.org domain? As far as I am aware there isn't.

Name: Anonymous 2009-12-24 3:39

Still that would be included under *.4chan.org/*, the address isn't the problem, since the script shows up fine.

Some part of the fychan code is that isn't getting along with the new 4chan code, so some of the features are just doing nothing when you click the buttons.

Name: Anonymous 2010-02-03 8:19

Is there any particular reason the scrollbar is acting strangely ONLY on boards.* while using Firefox 3.6? What it does is, when you click on an empty space, the bar automatically scrolls there, and then you can't drag it anymore until you refresh or leave the page. It started getting annoying so I decided to figure out what was doing it. I noticed it only happens on boards.4chan.org, and the problem disappears when I disable the 4chan extension.

Anon,
I'd like to say a few things. First, i like this post. The ideas for the software that most of you are asking for sound somewhat interesting, although this whole thing is tl;dr.
The browser flameness: PROTIP: You don't need a browser nearly as complicated as firefox or opera to do these boards!
So, half of this, or more, isn't productive But some of it is and should really be on /prog/ because it's really about writing a neat program.
The program has alot of possibilities but what would be best would be a collaborative website on something like sourceforge to get it going, take input, updates, etc.
omg what a waste of time(but i want moar options for sorting and replying)

I just updated to Firefox 3.6 and 4chan 0.4.5.15 and I've noticed a weird issue. On the imageboards if I use the up/down scroll arrows, after that I can no longer drag the scrollbar. Reloading the page fixes until I click the arrows again. Disabling the 4chan extension eliminates the issue.

Is there a setting I should change or is this a bug?

1. Perhaps instead of a Quick Reply button, have it appear when you click a post's post number?

Hmm. The only thing left I can think of, is it could be some obscure registry entry became corrupted during the installation, or something not set correctly in about:config, something to that effect. Sorry I could not be of more help. :|

Just fixed it.
Solution: uninstall the extension, reinstall, check for updates, update. It might have just been check for updates, since apparently the site doesn't have the most up to date one linked as the download.

Seems like you have the same problem as me.
The threadwatcher is often (not always though) forgetting all my bookmarked threads when I close FF. Period of time FF was closed doesn't matter, happens for minutes and days the same.

Currently on Firefox/3.6.4, but had this problem on mutliple computers with 3.0.x and 3.5.x as well.

Anyone know what could be causing this?

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-02 16:55

Yes, I know. I have automatic updates turned off, since sometimes when I'm on the latest version, extensions break.

The 4chan extension is conflicting with the AutoPager extension; it's not really a problem of the browser itself. And it's just the popup reply box, everything else works

I also get this message in the Error Console (under messages):
While creating services from category 'profile-after-change', service for entry '4chanManager', contract ID '@4chan.wrathfilledhate.net/menu/manager-object;1' does not implement nsIObserver.

Also as you already know "@4chan.wrathfilledhate.net/menu/manager-object;1" was what causing the original error message with Firefox 4.0, this isn't a big deal to me because I never use the board hiding feature but I'm sure others care

Name: Dink 2011-04-05 20:13

I've been using the extension for a long time now, and it works great--with one exception, the thread watcher.  Sometimes when I close Firefox, it will erase all my watched threads.  When I reopen the brower, I'll return to find an empty list of threads on every board I browse.  This is quite a huge bummer, it's come to the point where I'm afraid to close Firefox.

Any clue on why this might be happening?  It's not every time either, it seems to occur at random.

Fix the plugin yourself, it's easy (did it myself before posting)

-download old plugin

http://4chan.wrathfilledhate.net/menu/4chan.v0.4.5.16.xpi

-right-click the 4chan.v0.4.5.16.xpi file, open with 7zip

-extract the install.rdf file

-open notepad, drag-and-drop install.rdf into notepad

-locate the line bellow (ctrl+F helps):

 <em:maxVersion>4.2</em:maxVersion>

 change it to...

 <em:maxVersion>5.0</em:maxVersion>

-just save and exit, don't change anything else

-drag-and-drop modified install.rdf into 7zip window, save and exit 7zip

-drag-and-drop modified 4chan.v0.4.5.16.xpi into FF5, done!

To be more precise: I cannot check any boards you want to hide under the "Menu" option of the extension. On top of that, every board now has an obnoxious, large empty space extending way below the actual end of a page.

Name: Anonymous 2011-08-29 10:09

>>874
Yeah, that's bothering me, too. I want /soc/ out of the list and I have no recourse...

Name: Anonymous 2011-08-29 11:10

>>876
Oh, I sort of do have a recourse. What I did was:

1. go into my FF profile (application data\mozilla\firefox\profiles\gobbledygook.default)
2. find 4chan_boards.xml
3. make a backup
4. opened it in notepad++ and deleted all the boards I didn't want and saved it
5. made the file read only

When I opened FF, it gave an error about not being able to write the file, but the menu works and only has the files I left in it. So it's sort of a ticky-tacky fix and I have to find and destroy the line in 4chan.js (I think) to make it quit trying to download its own version of 4chan_boards.xml on startup, but it's better than seeing the whole board list when I open the menu.

You can manually fix that
Type about:config in your URL bar
Find a property called 4chan.hiddenboards and edit it.

for example. if you want to hide /b/, you would add:
4chan-b

to the list, separate boards with a comma.

Anyone else having trouble with the latest update (0.4.5.16) under Firefox 3.6? It doesn't work any more for me, and when I open Firefox with it enabled I get the following error message in a javascript alert:

[Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80570015 (NS_ERROR_XPC_CI_RETURNED_FAILURE) [nsIJSCID.createInstance]"  nsresult: "0x80570015 (NS_ERROR_XPC_CI_RETURNED_FAILURE)"  location: "JS frame :: chrome://4chan/content/4chanOverlay.js :: chan_Init :: line 115"  data: no]

Also the configuration doesn't seem to work either; it gives me the same error, displays the options dialog like normal, and produces the following error if I try to apply any changes: "TypeError: chan_managerobject is null"

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-12 8:18

Kinda sad, since 3.6 is the only FF version worth a damn

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-12 19:38

Why did you revive this obsolete extension? Now moot is just using it to lure people away from more functional extensions like 4chan X which have long since surpassed it.

Why not use the 4chanX user script? It can do everything 4chan extension can do, but better and with many more features.

Install greasemonkey extension for firefox, which will enable you to install user scripts, then go here http://mayhemydg.github.com/4chan-x/ and install the script.

After it is installed, you will see a [4chan x] link near where the board links are. This link will open settings which will let you choose what features you want.
