Why does most hentai look like crap?

Seriously, most hentai looks like it was drawn by a 12 year old. And even if it is well drawn, its animation is either really choppy or the Genitiles are drawn so badly its hard to tell what the fuck they are.

Why is this? Is it just that americans get the shitty hentai?

Is it because most hentai is censored, and must be re-drawn once it gets uncensored and sent to america?

Hentai has limited appeal and therefore an often limited budget. At least humping scenes are generally pretty easy - animate a twelve frame cycle, and just pan slowly across it for ten seconds. Face it, nobody watches hentai for quality artistry, they watch it in order to make knuckle children.

Also, if you think hentai anime has to be redrawn to decensor it for American audiences, kindly leave the building (via a fourth floor window). There is no way on earth hentai has a large enough audience in the US to justify spending tens of thousands of dollars on redrawing animated scenes.

Yes, it would. Studios that do digital effects and repainting charge hundreds of dollars per hour. And that sort of thing would be way beyond just putting swimsuits on characters a la Cartoon Network, but complex redrawing and repainting of whole regions of multiple images, which is intricate and time-intensive work. Imagine having to repaint between ten and several hundred frames per scene, for dozens of scenes per episode, and you can see how the cost would skyrocket. It just doesn't happen.

And that was my point to begin with - they don't repaint it because the shows are animated uncensored, then mosaiced for the Japanese audience. The US releases use the uncensored master tapes. Use your loaf, for crying out loud.

Uh..have any of you ever seen hentai? I can name about 4 'good' hentai's that have semi-realistic looking genitalia. Plus, most bad hentai (which is alot) has bad animation, which probly leaves in around 20FPS, without the duplicated scenes and loops i doubt there is much more than 1000-3000 frames of sex per hentai. Now, if any of you havnt seen most hentai penis's they look like this =====D, as flat and usually less shapely than that, hardly any of them have any shading, and the art style is alwase different and less detailed than the rest of the characters. I think re-drawing is a very possible idea since you would only have to redraw the censored parts..which is only part of a thigh and a penis or cunt.

Plus i dont know about any of you, but i cant jerk off or make 'knuckle children' with something that looks so horribly drawn.

There has to be SOME good quality hentai in Japan.  Like, OAV quality animation comparable to a normal anime series.  Something that captures the detail of a 2D CG image or drawing.  Or the detail of a professional manga artist.  It has to exist.  It must.  I pray to you, hentai God.

It probly exists, its just that they dont want to give up the rights to the good stuff, so they just dub and sub the bad hentai and bring it over here cause they'll know we'll get it.

There is, it's just an extreme minority, just like with anything. The rule's 99% crap. With porno, the percentage gets bigger, because the audience's expectations are lower, because they look down on porn while buying it and jerking off to it, for some silly reason.

Usually the kinds of H that get the full treatment are either based off of extremely successful or popular H-games, like the ubiquitously recommended Bible Black series, or direct OAVs, usually borne on a popular artist, like Urushihara Satoshi's Front Innocent. Other OAVs, like those of what's known as La Blue Girl and Urotsukodouji, evolve over time from a particularly successful series.

There have been no fully H TV series that I know of, though, if what I hear is correct,GONZO's GANTZ has many sex scenes that live up to the rest of the animation there.

There are many OAVs that feature "regular" sex and romantic situations, but the best examples of such available in the US are already very old, such as in A Heat for All Seasons or the Can Can Bunny games, or that older Angels in the Court OAV.

Otherwise, given that the truly "best" H-animation works are based off of popular games, it usually results that when a "tame" H-game is very popular, it's usually converted into a "Real" Anime TV series or OAV, with the sex either omitted or toned down. Take for example Tsukihime, and now Fate/STAY-NIGHT.

Both games had superlative H, but are getting the full nine yards, with Tsukihime being converted to the somewhat-disappointing Shingetsutan Tsukihime, and Fate/STAY-NIGHT getting a hopefully better treatment soon.

If you want a more extreme example, take To Heart, and Air (I think). To Heart was a tame H-game that was converted to an anime series, and subsequently became more popular than it ever was as a "clean" property.

Which leaves the other, exclusively "Hentai" works to be based on fetish, of which in Japan there is very, very, very ,very much. I mention once more, Bible Black, and its new partner, Discipline.

Because that's not what people pay for. They may pay to fap to it in the end, but they won't pay for just 5 minutes of boring sex. If they wanted that, they'd buy REAL porn. People pay for CHARACTER, no matter how cliche or shallow. They pay to see an innocent (or not innocent) girl get gang raped or violated by some tentacled monster or whatever. People don't buy anime porn to have anime pornstars. It's boring.

And hey, all anime character designs look the same. You'd get bored if you just saw people having sex scene after sex scene, simply because hentai artwork isn't the most creative on the block.

dunno, but I have seen a Sasami animation (2:44) floating around emule. I've only managed to get the smaller 3 or so MB version though that uses crappy Realplayer. No complete sources on the 60 MB. Short animations are easier to make, especially when it doesn't change scenes or anything.  The Tifa short is awesome, but doesn't change all that much.  Then there are games like Hard Love Life which have high quality animation but limited positions/variety.
