Why do the British find it so funny when men dress up as women?
If you don't know what I am talking about, watch ANY British attempt at comedy.

what, like spaced, black books, the office, who's line is it anyway, never mind the buzzcocks, brasseye, attention scum, spitting image, have I got news for you?
Let me guess... you caught a 5-second clip of Little Britain on some shopping channel?

Seems I was right, otherwise >>2 would not have gone defensive. Good thing that.
Yes, >>2, I did in fact catch a 5-second clip of Little Britain before posting >>1. HOWEVER! The fact that all British comedy (not whatever junk you listed) contains crossdressing, is indeed an undeniable fact.
Well I don't see what's wrong with finding men dressing as women funny. Obviously your claim that ALL british comedies have men dressed as women just because one or two have them is false. It's like me saying all American comedies suck just because I watched 10 seconds of Friends which sucked.

Yes, everything produced in amerika sucks, but that has nothing to do with this.
I did not say there was anything wrong with liking crossdressing, or maybe I did, that doesn't matter either. What I really want to know is why is it so popular in Britain? Something to do with having a female ruler perhaps?
I don't understand why you think it's so popular. Perhaps you could name a few of the series where cross dressing takes place. Little Britian is one, but I can hardly think of any other series. Like >>2 pointed out, there are many series like The Office for example where there is no cross dressing.

It's probably parodying the earlier times when women weren't allowed in theatre/theater/whatever the hell it's called, and men played all the female roles.
As far as finding it funny, I can't explain it. I always thought Monty Pyton was funny, but not because of that.

I cant think of many modern british comedies that have crossdressers only litle britain but thats a spoof on absurdly bad transexualls .
BTW american comedy has crossdressers too M.A.S.H for example so by your reasoning I can say that all american comedy involves crossdressing as well .
My guess is you just saw it on the simpsons or familiy guy and your simple mind made it into something that its not .
>>6 I guess a laughing track is worse than a live audience that has to laugh at every little thing (look he dropped his pencil)cause a sign says so.
Uh, if you've ever been in a live studio audience, there is NO sign that tells you to laugh. The laughter is natural unlike Brit comedies that adds canned laughter at parts that are not even funny.
actually they were just added in for the foreign market cos people don't know where to laugh.

>that adds canned laughter at parts that are not even funny.
That's probably cos foreign people have a limited sense of humour. They can't detect irony either.
British humour is very unique, lathered with satire and usually complex. Many foreigners do not get all the jokes or even realise jokes are being made. If you watch the same episode of only fools and horses every year from the age of 5 to 20 you will laugh at new jokes you suddenly 'get'.
As for crossdressing? Comedys only mock bad crossdressers and yes i would say the rule of the theater in the past come into it.
True true, alot of humor (or humour) in Britain is politically aligned. Therefore unless you keep track of alot of British politics, alot of British jokes make no sense.
