Why do the British find it so funny when men dress up as women?

If you don't know what I am talking about, watch ANY British attempt at comedy.

I did not say there was anything wrong with liking crossdressing, or maybe I did, that doesn't matter either. What I really want to know is why is it so popular in Britain? Something to do with having a female ruler perhaps?
