Why do the British find it so funny when men dress up as women?
If you don't know what I am talking about, watch ANY British attempt at comedy.

British humour is very unique, lathered with satire and usually complex. Many foreigners do not get all the jokes or even realise jokes are being made. If you watch the same episode of only fools and horses every year from the age of 5 to 20 you will laugh at new jokes you suddenly 'get'.
As for crossdressing? Comedys only mock bad crossdressers and yes i would say the rule of the theater in the past come into it.
