So I simply use a "dumbphone" ("smart"phone users should be called dumbusers) that I use only for only text and making/receiving calls.
Want a gps? use a handheld gps. Time? get a watch. Internet browsing/ssh? Get a small laptop.
"Smart"phones are a jack of all trades master of none device and used only by dumb white collar kids that have nothing important going on in their lives.

I disagree, OP. I don't own a smartphone, but I can see the appeal of having one gadget that does a million things reasonably well, rather than a million gadgets that do one thing well. I don't want to carry a GPS, phone, watch, laptop, etc. around with me all day, when I could just carry a mobile phone that would suit my needs while I'm out of the house. Sure, it doesn't do anything as well as a dedicated device, but it does it well enough.

I don't have a smartphone. I have a 500 GB media player that runs Android and can connect to the internet via wifi. It comes in handy sometimes to look up stuff or read ebooks on the go. It's a lot easier to carry around than a laptop. If I had a smartphone then I'd use it the same way. You're not going to be doing anything productive while waiting in line, in any case. So I don't understand the characterization.
