Long Live WikiLeaks

Long live WikiLeaks. Anybody against it is against free press and free speech.
If it's taken down, I have that taken care of...

I agree, but I think 39 has a point. If we learned anything from Iraq and Afghanistan, it's that the enemy of your enemy is not always your friend.

>>38
Agreed. What really ought to be at issue is the documents themselves and the lies of our government. Assange is a great guy and his legal charges are bullshit propogated by the US, but that's only part of what's going on here.

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-17 6:27

I honestly couldn't care less about Wikileaks and Openleaks. Neither of them (especially in the latter's case) have produced anything of importance that we didn't already know. But that's not the point because Assange has made it his point to act like an egocentric, shove-it-down-your-throat hyperbole. He could have done what any rational leaders would do and just step back and let his organisation do the talking. But no. He had to do dramatic poses, shove his political opinions in everyone's faces and boast about how much he likes turning those thumbscrews on his political targets and making everyone squirm. His self inflated arrogance is what pisses most people off, not that a group of script kiddies somewhere in a secret location is spilling secret documents. I for one am happy this clown's starting to feel the burn now. The more you go around claimimg how untouchable you are, the more people will prove you wrong. Now this Dorm-whatever his name is, is spilling the beans on Assange.
Hey Julian, you know when your started leaking private documents on the US government and got them all flustered and angry about it? Well now you know how it feels when your private details are leaked everywhere. Squawk conspiracy all you like but we all know you attacked a cat and threatened to kill anyone who would "fuck-up" under your watch.
Or how the tables have turned, and oh how satisfying it is.

I guess I must be an "enemy of free speech" now or something.

Inb4 anyone called be a retard or idiot or whatever you cool kids use as an insult nowadays.

You can say whatever you want. There's freedon of speach for everyone here. Still, I find ad hominem attacks (attacking someone's person rather than his opinions) quite dishonest. Still, if someone if a public figure we have a democratic obligation to criticise. If we want to be honest we need to criticise WHAT they say. Not the way they say it, their color, sex etc. And I'm not being anal here. These are the basic rules of conversation.

The fact that someone puts himself in danger to tell us what our governments (our elected representatives) don't, is heroic in a sense. I'm not going to judge this person's character.

If the idea behind wikileaks and openleaks works, it should help countries operate more democraticaly. This should be benaficial for everyone. We can all sense the danger of the world elitism. No matter what political background we come from. Letting politicians have secrets is not very democratic at all. We don't care what they do in their private lifes but we have to know exactly what they are doing in their political lives otherwise democracy falls appart. I don't care if it's wikileaks, openleaks or whatever leaks. Public information about policies, politicians and their actions should be public (as the word says) but isn't. And if our elected representatives choose to hide it from us, then it's a case of theft. This means that if someone steals is back and brings it back and returns it for free, is not realy a thief as he didn't steal anything, he returned something to its rightfull owner, at his own cost as well!

But I am criticizing Assange for what he says, not how he says it. He declared that informants should be killed because they "deserve" it. He's also been reported as saying to the other guy roughly "If you fuck up, I will hunt you down and kill you". That's not something a benevolent leader who wishes to stop the big guys would say. He's the worst possible leader. Remove Assange and I wouldn't have a problem with Wikileaks, and they'd of had less problems as well.

I'm agreeing with >>44 on grounds that Assange is the worst possible leader you could have, and even more so considering the fact he sends his lawyer cronies to send letters to anyone who even dares deliver any kind of criticism.
The guy's a douch. Wikileaks would do well to shed that dead weight

It was Assange's idea. They aren't lame enough to sell out like that.

I support wikileaks even if Assange is a twat.  We need more free speech in the world.

I totaly agree

Okay my two cents on the matter.
Julian Assange is visibly upset about the thought of being extradited to Sweden. I can think of three hypothetical base reasons he wouldn't want that to happen. Any of them might be true or any of them might be false, so none of you Assange fags start moaning about me being an enemy of free press or whatever tired shit you still pull:

1). There's another dirty secret, or skeleton in Assange's closet that will be revealed if he gets sent there. Considering what's been said about his own personal comments that he admitted to fathering lovechilds around the the world, that he had the gall to say his DNA should be reproduced and how he described himself on personal dating sites, maybe he sabotaged the condom in an attempt to make another mini-Assange? Or maybe there's someone else involved that has a dirty secret or two to share? That last bit is mostlikely untrue.

2). Once he gets extradited from Britain, it's game over for him completely. The US will wrangle their way in, bag and tag him and he'll never be seen again, either living the rest of his life in a 2 by 4 prison cell or  bullet in the head in a locked off room.

3). Assange is being a egocentric drama queen, who knows making a fuss about this will get him more attention. I mean he probably still expects to make the front page every day. Might as well do it like Z-list celebrity does it

Or maybe the secret is that Assange is actually from the planet Jupiter and he's really a gay sphynx that plays ocarina.

Don't be a dumbass. He's scared and upset because the United States is pissing all over their own laws and international laws that they signed. It's not like he's going to have a trial in front of a jury of his peers. No justice. No peace.

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-23 5:23

>>56
Dude, it's a hypothetical. None of them have to be taken seriously.
Anyhoo, maybe he should have thought about the risks before he started his shitstorms. I mean you don't steal information from the United States and pass it around and expect to be left alone.

I'd be happy to see him just disappear or go live on an island somewhere if only so he'd shut up. Besides, Wikileaks is pretty much dead. It's contributing anything of value and probably won't in the future.

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-24 0:48

>>57
Dumbshit: he didn't STEAL information. No-one even believes he STOLE information. Information was GIVEN to him. Perhaps you disagree with him PUBLISHING that information, but don't lie and say he STOLE it.

Plus, you are either an idiot or literally have your head in sand if you think Wikileak isn't contributing anything to the world.

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-24 1:02

Assange's behaviour suggests he is narcissistic and without any genuine ethical motivation, those involed in leaking the information may well have been but certainly not him, he is pretty much just an attention whoring middle man. This whole debaucle has done both good and bad, probably bad in the short run but in the long run we can be sure that intelligence services in the free world will beef up security and the leaks themselves were not all that controversial, I'm pretty sure everyone already knew that the US covered up friendly fire and collateral damage incidents, what they didn't know was whether the US is a regular democracy with no real centralized leadership or whether the US is controlled by a "boy's club" oligarchy who do as much as they can get away with under a democratic system. These leaks prove that US interests are very closely aligned with that of it's impartial educated middle class.

Name: 59 2011-02-24 1:05

Also worth mentioning is the fact that wikileaks is a civilian organization, if a military organization had identified the leaks they would have gone to great lengths to preven the US government discovering the flaws in their security, wikileaks of course instantly thought "WHAT A SCOOP" and let rip without much prior forethought or consideration inadvertantly revealing the breach.

Butthurt your glorious leader's going away for leaking stuff that wasn't his?

Fuck leadershit.
You're just buying into lies that are mind-bogglingly stupid. It's annoying. Who are you: Sarah Palin? Sheesh.

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-24 16:40

>>65
Lies? Geez, why didn't anyone tell me they might possibly be lies?

Face it, he has ugly flaws. Fellow publishers and work colleges saw them and spilled the beans on them. The only reason they took so long to surface was he currently has less power to sue anyone for talking about them.

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-24 16:53

You know what, you're right. Who gives a shit bout all the corruption that's being exposed and all the resulting protests and so on.
Let's focus on one guy and his personality quirks. It's much easier to handle.

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-24 17:02

>>67
I think it's been said a thousand times already. They could focus on Wikileaks, but he's the one that masterminded it. Wikileaks is dead as a functioning organisation. The anon submitting system is gone. Few are going to risk putting a name to their leaks unless they got extreme balls. All they have left to focus on now is the ringleader. That's why they're spending all their resources on icing him rather than going after a load of lackies that did the hard work. Honestly I don't think anymore can done now.

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-24 17:22

>>68
Oh, but you forgot one thing: Wikileaks is still publishing. Cables are still coming out.
Not so dead really.

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-24 17:26

>>69
They're most likely only publishing stuff they already have. If they get new stuff it won't be from anon posters, hence less of it. After all, who wants to blow the whistle on some big company and then get put in jail/sued/murdered down a back alley for it? Wikileaks had it's 15 minutes of fame. Now it'll just fade into the background like most other websites will. Wikileaks doesn't make the news anymore. Assange only makes it for making a fuss about his extradition. Noone will even rememember it in 10 years unless they look in a history book. It'll just be "That site that published secret stuff noone wanted you to know"

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-24 17:30

>>70
Haha, yeah, you wish.
The world is already changing. No-one will remember Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Yemen, and (hoo boy) Saudi Arabia, will they?
Go drink your Ovaltine and sit in your rocker, Grandma, everything's gonna be just fine. These young upstarts don't know what they're talking about.

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-24 17:36

People will remember the riots for the same reason they remember the numerous Bloody Sundays, the Russian Revolution or the American Civil war. Who remembers whistleblowers? The only reason we remember the Watergate whistleblower and the Papers that resulted is because a) it's a piece of history America actually likes talking about and b) There's a fucking movie about it. If America has their way, they'll erase cablegate or make it look like a futile attempt to stop them (which is was)

You talk about wikileaks as if they're all a bunch of 20 somethings. Just drop that and face it, you're just a shill for Assange and you want the last word on it.

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-24 17:48

>>72
And I'll get it too: come hell or high water.

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-24 17:59

>>73
And if you did then it just proves you're a shill for Assange. If I get it, it proves I'm one of many that's tired of the annoying shit Assange is pulling or has pulled.
So you know, fuck it, I guess you just "have" to win because you're "fighting for justice or freedom" or whatever your glorious leader wanted to call leaking stuff he had no right to have in the first place. I for one am glad Wikileaks doesn't have the anon posting system anymore, because is Assange is a "kid who plays with guns"

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-24 18:33

silly child; it proves nothing but that we both have some time to kill in debate.
I can't figure out if you're just old and befuddled, or young and super-stupid.
Or, shit, maybe I'm being trolled. Dammit. I always fall for troll shit.
