Ladies and Gentlemen...

this is why the Euros are not worth dealing with, listening to, or putting up with.

Their home-grown businesses force contractual agreements with US companies, and the US company is the one with the gun at its throat from the snotty, more holy than thou EU commissioners.

Their home-grown businesses force the US company to put DRM on music, and the US company is the one that is called on the carpet.

Their home-grown companies put themselves willingly at the feet of Microsoft, and instead of just moving way from Microsoft products, they hold up Microsoft with a shive in their back and force them to empty their wallets to pay for Eu commissioners' private planes and for pensions for every other person alive in Europe.

Europe, you're a petty group of people, with no backbone to speak of, you didn't even say "thank you" for us saving you from Hitler, and you think that the very socialist construct that fell apart right next to you is your salvation, all the while, handing over what pitiful excuses for culture you have - your one and fleeting redeeming quality to mullahs and over to sharia law where its okay to have a North African beat their wife today, and where it will be against the law to have any freedom of speech left fairly soon, lest you draw a cartoon of that camel jockey, Muhammed!

and on top of all that, you're fscking up your entire continent with driving restrictions such that soon, the only markets for your cars will be in America, since you won't be allowed to drive anything but Fiats and even those won't be allowed to go 40 kph.

wankers.

Hello, I live in Europe. I think your problem is this weird hive mind mentality. You and me are both individuals, certainly we aren't defined by something as arbitrary as geographical borders? I have some comments though.

Few Europeans will ever thank you for saving them from Hitler, because you didn't. Other people who were born on the same continent as you did. You have no right to claim that accomplishment. Another reason is of course that most Europeans weren't alive back then.

Some Eurofags have been known to have backbone. Through the course of history Europeans have waged so many wars that America can't hope to ever reach a tenth of that. Seriously, when it comes to killing everyone else are amateurs. What about the Germans who repeatedly took on the world all by themselves?

As for economics, if you want to do business on a market you follow the rules of that market. That's hardly a European trait.

Love and lollipops!

So when it comes to america fighting wars it is "people who were born on the same continent" and when it coems to europe fighting wars you think "Europeans have waged so many wars that America can't hope to ever reach a tenth of that. Seriously, when it comes to killing everyone else are amateurs."?

That's blatantly biased and apologetic.

Hmm, good point. But I never said that the Europeans of today actually "take credit" for those wars (in fact it's the opposite, most denounce them). I mentioned them to counter the idea that Europeans historically lack backbone, which the OP seems to be saying since he brings up Hitler.

Yeah, except the 'second front' was only opened  up after all the major battles of the eastern front (which dwarfed any on the western front) had been fought. The reality is that Stalin saved us from Hitler, as the vast majority of German forces fought on the eastern front in WW2. To Americas credit, they did save Europe from Stalin however.

All that aside, your petty nationalism only reveals the very root of why we laugh at Americans. You sit there at your computer, wanking on about how 'great' your country is compared with other countries, when the fact is that your country would fuck you over in a SECOND.

Now I'm not saying that isn't the case here; it is, albeit to a lesser extent. But the point is we're smart enough to realise it. Europeans talk shit about Europe and it's governments/nations all the time, because we know that being in love with the state is a sad and pathetic existence. It's a means to an end, and a decent system to live in, but we don't owe it shit.

Then we hear you Americans (not all of you, but a large portion) banging on about how great your country is, and wonderful it is, when we know that just like all other nation-states it is no more than a system designed to support some people by exploiting other people. America is really no worse a place than Europe; there are pros & cons. What sucks is that you're so up yourself about how you happened to be born within a certain set of legal boundaries which are purely conceptual and totally meaningless.

I don't 'believe in' my country, and neither should you. Get over it douche.

"All that aside, your petty nationalism only reveals the very root of why we laugh at Americans. You sit there at your computer, wanking on about how 'great' your country is compared with other countries, when the fact is that your country would fuck you over in a SECOND."

Our country has laws meant to keep it from fucking us over in a second.  Constitutionally limited govt ftw.

"Europeans talk shit about Europe and it's governments/nations all the time, because we know that being in love with the state is a sad and pathetic existence. It's a means to an end, and a decent system to live in, but we don't owe it shit."

Wait a minute, so you talk shit about how great your country is, while you know it actually isn't? Well good, I guess your words are empty, and fundamentally we are on the same page:  your governments suck.

"Then we hear you Americans (not all of you, but a large portion) banging on about how great your country is, and wonderful it is, when we know that just like all other nation-states it is no more than a system designed to support some people by exploiting other people."

Not quite true.  In the traditional american system of free trade and free markets, everyone benefited from transactions.  The only tarnish on this history of liberty is an admittedly horrible one:  slavery.  We also had laws in place that limited government abuse and gave a revolutionary degree of personal freedom protection to Americans.

"America is really no worse a place than Europe; there are pros & cons."

I agree.  And in my opinion, the pros outweigh the cons by a significant margin.

"What sucks is that you're so up yourself about how you happened to be born within a certain set of legal boundaries which are purely conceptual and totally meaningless."

I don't think our system of checks and balances, or our laws are meaningless.  They protect individual freedom, and I'm pretty damn glad they are there.

"I don't 'believe in' my country, and neither should you. Get over it douche."

I am not saying that the USA is perfect.  Indeed, we frequently run into troubles with getting officials to obey the laws.  I will still say I prefer it to most other countries in the world, including nearly all in Europe.

system of checks and balances...They protect individual freedom
Welcome, you must be new here. It's 2007. Your freedom has been dangerously eroded, and your government is abducting people from foreign countries (including Italy and Germany), locking them up, and torturing them. My freedom could be in jeopardy, thanks to fear-driven nationalism. Living on the doorstep of a world-dominating superpower makes me nervous.

I will still say I prefer it to most other
countries in the world, including nearly all in Europe.
This is your opinion, and your welcome to it. But the rest of the world disagrees. Flaunting ones nationality is considered tasteless by most of the people in free countries, and only leads to strife with oppressive regimes.

My petty nationalism? The fact that I am granted my due rights granted me by existance nad that i am proud of it is why I am laughed at? We have the right to live not for our gov't as you Brits do, but for ourselves. We can own what-so-ever we wish; but you can't own guns to defend your lives with against a tyrranical gov't. You say our country will "fuck [American citizens] over in a second" I have a feeling that you say this because yours has already fucked you over. It seems that europeans have a hard-on for the shouting down of America's status, and Europe is subject to a large amount of altruistic political philosophy. Persons under the sway of said altruistic philosophy tend to quickly recognize centers of ability and quickly destroy them so as they are down to a common level. That is what Americans see of your denounciation of America; that, and I hesitate to use the word "jealousy", Europe's acknowledgement that America is a more advanced country economically makes the Europeans denounce America for the sheer apeasement of their feelings towards their own country.

Americans are proud of their country not because it is more wealthy or more powerful militarily, but rather that America is the only country born out of the genuine care for the individual. All, and I mean that, other countries are born out of tribal warfare and the restriction of others' rights but America is the bastion of individual freedom. Granted this has changed recently with the passing of some fairly socialist legislature, America is concerned only with individual rights and ability.

the reason we cant own guns to 'defend ourselves against a tyrannical government' is that the reason we HAVE a government is to protect us from a tyrannical monarch.

since the government is democratically chosen and must be chosen so according to the constitution, and since the PMs power is limited, there can't suddenly arise a tyrrannical someone who takes over the country and is mean and evil or whatever.

now, if this, the transferring of power from the monarch to the public, isn't caring for the individual, what is it? before the socialist revolutions/rebellions in europe, europe was very very laissez-faire, but then a majority of the individuals said they didn't want it to be that way, and the individuals organized and changed it.
you know those ideas about individual freedom, those thoughts that are the foundation of what the founding fathers wrote, those were from europe. Europe simple had a different political development than america due to internal situations.

guns to defend your lives with against a tyrranical gov't
I have very little interest in gun control as an issue, but debating things like this is interesting.
This is an illogical argument that get repeated over and over.
You cannot defend yourself against totalitarianism from inside the system. Life is not a Die Hard movie. "They" simply have far more people with guns than you do. You remember Waco? Their guns didn't help them, and stockpiles of guns were the sole reason your government had any interest in the situation.
If guns are outlawed, criminals still have guns, this is true, and Joe Blow and his survivalist NRA friends can still access guns if they want to risk getting arrested.
America is a more advanced country economically
False. The US government funds itself through massive deficits, and reinforcing their economic interests with subterfuge and military action.
America is the only country born
out of the genuine care for the individual
Being founded during the enlightenment may be a factor in the stance on liberty.
But founding principals are meaningless after two-hundred years and the founders have long since passed.
Many European countries have gone through revolutions and reconstructions and are now based on constitutional freedoms. Some are behind and some never made it far past the starting gate.
Still, I believe America genuinely deserves recognition for their aid post-WWII (which has already been acknowledged in this thread), but not undying loyalty and freedom from criticism.
All, and I mean that, other countries are born out
of tribal warfare and the restriction of others' rights
War of Independence was not 'tribal warfare'? Did you realize British sympathizers did not have rights, had their property seized,  and were forced to flee the country
America is the bastion of individual freedom.
America is concerned only with individual rights and ability.
Propaganda. This is false for every country on earth.
If you are Christian, I recommend rereading your bible, specifically on the nature of the material earth.
All the nations of the earth are by nature evil, and adherence to a nation is... not good.
defeat the arabs
Your not fighting Arabs
"Leave them alone they didn't do anything."
Well, Iraq didn't do anything to you.
France...still expects its oil treaties
with Iraq to be maintained
The only reason the USA government wouldn't want to keep them is if they'd rather punish France for dissenting, and barrel the oil for domestic interests. Naturally, the invasion of Iraq had nothing to do with oil, so this can't be true.

Yes, I am not disagreeingwith you in the slightest. Britian haqs not faced a situation where they would require an armed populace to defend themselves because it is a very well set up system. However the theoretical possibility is what I am worried about. What COULD happen.

It is true that America was founded upon the European ideals of the Enlightenment era but it proves nothing. America was the successful application of those ideals.

A popular revolution is not the same as a single man trying to 'protect' himself from a government out to kill him.
Even so, if people who strongly believe in gun rights are fearful of totalitarianism, then where are their independent militias?
Aside from mountain men, of course.

kind of like the soviet union. The UK is an island so smuggling guns in is much more difficult than in the USA. This situation might not work so well if the country was part of mainland Europe.

pssst... I don't live in Britain.

In any case, nothing you or >>22 said is of any consequence due to the fact that you clearly have no comprehension of the power the state holds over you. 'Checks and balances' are a myth- as someone else said, who watches the watchmen? You live in a nation state, and it's a cruel, vicious, subtle and deceptive thing, because just like all nation states the system eventually exists just to preserve itself rather than to fufil it's original/founding goals.

Seriously, I'm not dissing America, because to do so would every bit as petty and ignorant as your original post (I'm talking to OP here, who I presume has responded somewhere along the line). All I'm saying is that it's pathetic to be proud of being born under the jurisdiction of a conceptual framework that will screw you in its own self-interest. I think Yossarian put it best:

"Do you really mean that it's not my business how or why I get killed and that it is Colonel Cathcart's? Do you really mean that?"

"Yes, I do," Clevinger insisted, seeming unsure. "There are men entrusted with winning the war who are in a much better position than we are to decide what targets have to be bombed."

"We are talking about two different things," Yossarian answered with exaggerated weariness. "You are talking about the relationship of the Air Corps to the infantry. You are talking about winning the war, and I am talking about winning the war and keeping alive."

"Exactly," Clevinger snapped smugly. "And which do you think is more important?"

"To whom?" Yossarian shot back. "Open your eyes, Clevinger. It doesn't make a damned bit of difference who wins the war to someone who's dead."

Clevinger sat for a moment as though he'd been slapped. "Congratulations!" he exclaimed bitterly... "I can't think of another attitude that could be dependent upon to give greater comfort to the enemy."

"The enemy," resorted Yossarian with weighted precision, "is anybody who's going to get you killed, no matter which side he's on, and that includes Colonel Cathcart. And don't you forget that, because the longer you remember it, the longer you might live."

Unrelated, but I thought the idea of representative democracy was that the people watch the government (watch the people).
