I have very little interest in gun control as an issue, but debating things like this is interesting.
This is an illogical argument that get repeated over and over.
You cannot defend yourself against totalitarianism from inside the system. Life is not a Die Hard movie. "They" simply have far more people with guns than you do. You remember Waco? Their guns didn't help them, and stockpiles of guns were the sole reason your government had any interest in the situation.
If guns are outlawed, criminals still have guns, this is true, and Joe Blow and his survivalist NRA friends can still access guns if they want to risk getting arrested.

False. The US government funds itself through massive deficits, and reinforcing their economic interests with subterfuge and military action.

Being founded during the enlightenment may be a factor in the stance on liberty.
But founding principals are meaningless after two-hundred years and the founders have long since passed.
Many European countries have gone through revolutions and reconstructions and are now based on constitutional freedoms. Some are behind and some never made it far past the starting gate.
Still, I believe America genuinely deserves recognition for their aid post-WWII (which has already been acknowledged in this thread), but not undying loyalty and freedom from criticism.

The only reason the USA government wouldn't want to keep them is if they'd rather punish France for dissenting, and barrel the oil for domestic interests. Naturally, the invasion of Iraq had nothing to do with oil, so this can't be true.
