Damnit, I'm really annoyed that not even ONE SRW game has officially been released in the States. Yes, I know, licensing issues, but if that's the only problem, why don't they just translate the Original Generation games? Are they afraid it "wouldn't sell"? I'm beginning to think the US is permanently screwed in the "strategy RPGs with giant robots" department.

No, but it's not as if the difficulties in bringing over a SRW game haven't been known and discussed for years. We just can't get that fired up about it any more. Plus, we did get some Front Mission games, so we're not completely screwed out of turn based giant robot games.

you were supposed to wait until the original poster got the thread up to like 20 replies by himself

Well, now that there are several Gundam series in English, that'd make... about 3 titles that people would recognize over here out of the entire series.
I guess Front Mission 5 is on its way to release in the states. I played 4. Wasn't bad. A bit too easy with pretty shallow mechanics, though. I think it's a good game to introduce people to the genre. I don't recommend starting folks out on Phantom Brave or Disgaea, those mechanics are sufficiently deep that they can be pretty off-putting.
I have no idea if I'd like it or not, I've never played it. When I see the name, though, I can't help but think of the existence of that awful tv show "Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce, Go!"
Who comes up with that crap?

Do the actual Gundam action games even sell? It's all well and good saying 'people know Gundam here! PROFIT!!' but those games are much less niche and filled with 100% Gundam goodness and I still don't think they're doing that hot.
I can't see how a game with a bunch of random Japanese robots in an incredibly niche genre is going to sell just because it's got Gundams.

No love for giant robots over here... small wonder why Megas XLR bombed. Damn it.

Megas was funny. I was sad when it went away. That made me cry like a small schoolgirl.
I have a friend who is obsessed with these games. I've seen enough that I think I can give a reasonable answer to your question:
Most Americans are not interested in playing 2D* turn based games starring obscure japenese mechs... At least I'm not.
*I have nothing against 2D games. In fact, most of the games I play are 2D.

I think it's sad you can't express an idea without covering your ass against people calling you a graphics whore.
What's even more sad is that the gaming community is actually like that.

In my experience, the "gaming community", as it is, is mostly a bunch of young (and thus insecure), hypercompetitive men. There's a very real social hierarchy, just like any subculture. It's fairly natural to fall into the hierarchy if one is a hardcore gamer.
>>16 's footnote is merely an instantiation of concern for social standing within that subculture. Now, I think it's a little silly because >>16 was posting anonymously, but I understand why it was done.
...
Thank God I'm no longer a hardcore gamer. :) As I sit here with my GeForce3 and ponder buying my next computer from Dell instead of building it myself, I'm just grateful that I've finally grown out of it.

I don't think he's scolding 16 so much as he's pointing out that it is in fact a sad situation the subculture is in. Breaking away from the EA best-seller groupthink only means that one goes in the opposite direction. These groups end up all buying the same shit, and waiting until the most popular person in their community forms an opinion before they make a decision.
Then there are the smaller subcultures that play specific games but always end up doing it with the same levle of insecure overcompensation. I love fighting games but god, some of the people I've played with...... they're downright creepy.

Then we have no choice but to DESTROY THE WORLD.

Why would you want to waste money? tard. Just let someone else build it for you and give them the list, like Computer Builder's Workshop.
Gaurantee it's at least $300-500 less than buying a similar computer, depending on what store you're planning to get that at.
Because I'm the person that everyone else went to to build their computers for them. Tard. And I'm burned out on it. Besides, one 30% or $650 coupon at your typical online retailer (like dell) brings the whole shebang into a very competitive price range. Especially when you're tacking that 20' LCD into the package.
