[Guys in the Class] 「ーWhaaaaaaaat?! Takeru knows HER too~~!?」
-Not sure if it's intentional, but the tildes are higher than the rest of the text and where they usually are: http://grab.by/mzFO. Compare with: http://grab.by/mzG2

-Okay, curious, in the part about the usage of "knave" and its change in meaning over time, what was the original Japanese word and what was originally in place of "Shakespeare," "Renaissance," "churl," and "villain"?

[Guys in the Class] 「ーUwooooooooo~~~~~!!!!」There's either two spaces between every exclamation mark, or you typed them in Japanese so they'd be all nice and fat like kanji/kana: http://grab.by/mzJq

For the guys having issues:

I. Game crashes

1. Try reinstalling the game, make sure you follow patch installation instructions word by word
2. Temporarily rename Plugins/afhook.rpo to Plugins/afhook.bak. This will disable translation plugin and game will be running without any modifications.
a) If it still doesn't work it means rUGP doesn't like your system. Try installing the game from a different source or using different Windows. Clearing all MLAF stuff from registry and My Documents + reinstalling the game might help as well.
b) If it does work:
- Save the game past the point where it crashes, rename afhook.bak to afhook.rpo and try playing from that save
- Send email with save before the scene that causes crash, screenshot with your version of the game (About window) and afhook.log

II. Untranslated line

1. Make sure you have installed latest patch correctly
2. Make a save before that line and send it via email along with afhook.log and afhook.pkg

You know.. it's kind of hard to email you if you don't even provide your email in the readme file.

You do realize that there's an e-mail field, and that you can put an e-mail address into it, right?

It's not for the sole purpose of putting "sage" inside.

^ never mind.

The whole "knave" deal was localizing the whole thing into something that's a little easier to understand in English.

Originally, kisama (貴様) was used as a very polite and formal second person pronoun used towards those of higher social standing, but it eventually evolved into the derogatory sense it has today. I couldn't really think of a good English equivalent that worked well, so I picked "knave".

Also, Takeru also talks about how if you break up the kanji in kisama into ki (貴, the honorable suffix; think "aniki" 兄貴) and sama (様, the honorific), they're both polite terms on their own. That's where the whole "villain" and "churl" deal comes from.

Finally, the whole Shakespeare thing came from trying to make all of it fit with the "knave" thing, because the Edo period and the Early Modern era don't quite jibe with it.

Come to think of it, I should probably attach some translator's notes to a future patch, so those who are curious can see how fun it is to translate Takeru's terrible puns.

Name: Anonymous 2013-05-17 2:03

>>90
Fascinating. I always thought the kisama thing was interesting, and I'd be delighted in a translator's note like that. Also, what was the original Japanese for "weeaboo" (when Takeru calls Walken a weeaboo)?

Continuing off of >>83,
[Meiya] 「...?」
contains another fatty Japanese question mark: http://grab.by/mD2O

So I don't know how much you care about consistency with punctuation, but here's another instance of fatass Japanese exclamation points: http://grab.by/mD34

Looks like there's an extra space between "tub" and "'o" here: http://grab.by/mD3Q and here: http://grab.by/mD3S and here: http://grab.by/mD3W, and 'o in "tub 'o lard" should be o' so it reads "tub o' lard."

Some more of the slanted quotation marks, whatever they're called: http://grab.by/mD5w

Anyone else having some major stuttering while playing?  Like my entire system locks up only while playing Altered Fable with the patch.

Name: Anonymous 2013-05-18 14:26

>>94
Does it still happen if you remove afhook.rpo from Plugins directory?

Name: Anonymous 2013-05-18 14:46

>>95
>>94
OK, I think I found the trigger.  It only happens when I have Firefox and the game running at the same time.  Not entirely sure why that is, but I guess I won't be browsing the web while playing in any case.

I can try testing with the afhook.rpo from the plugins directory, but I'd rather avoid doing that for a bit as the stuttering looks like something that might be affecting my hardware somehow.  Everything just locks up including my mouse, display, keyboard, etc.

What about plebs, that's a formerly neutral word referring to the Roman non-aristocratic class (who could still become quite wealthy and influential) that degraded into an insult about being uncultured in modern usage.

Heh, I always call people around me plebeians.

Name: Anonymous 2013-05-21 5:09

My god, this is actually happening. Glorious. Fucking glorious. Already 65%? This is probably gonna be complete by the time the year's done, isn't it? I love you, 4chan.

Back to /ancient rome/, please.

Name: Anonymous 2013-05-23 5:15

Ok, the game works nice and fine until i reach the part where Takeru goes to a store to buy presents, and after i reach the line "I purposely ignored them last time, but... perhaps they'd work" and clicked to advance, i get this rUGP MFC (String of japanese letters) error message and the game crashes. Am using Japanese for Non-unicode programs, tried reinstalling multiple times, and even tried compatibility mode, even tried disabling the afhook.rpo, but it always crashes on that particular line.

OS is Win8

Any help/ tips would really be appreciated.

Many thanks for the translation effect.

I am having the same trouble as 102 and I can't seem to find a different version for the torrent. This is going to sound stupid but can someone, somehow upload their working rio.002 file?

I'm pretty desperate to get the game to work at this point.

I had this problem with every Muv-Luv on Win8. It seemed to be the OS, worked fine in Win7 and in an XP VM.

Name: Anonymous 2013-05-26 15:02

>>106

I'm using 64-bit version of Win8 and every Muv-Luv I have tested works perfectly fine. That said, rUGP is quite unpredictable so I wouldn't be surprised.

>>105
>>102

This version should work fine: [070831][age]マブラヴ ALTERED FABLE+特典+修正ファイル Ver1.10[5.16 G]

2.1 with the missing lines fucking where?

It was always the same damn places for me.
In Extra, at the amusement park with Sumika. Not with Meiya, just Sumika.
Unlimited and Alternative just stop at the endings.

This engine is just.... What the hell is it? By Alternative, they have moving mouths (not even good) and shit.

I guess I could just throw Win8 back on this computer then.

Name: Anonymous 2013-05-30 11:56

Just install WinXP in a virtual machine, install the CJK languages and change the non-unicode language to Jap. That worked for me.

What exactly is the plugin? Is it significant in any way with the current patch?

Name: Anonymous 2013-06-03 20:37

>>115
It's a plugin (+tools) for rUGP engine which allows translating games based on it.
Version used in current patch only allowed for translating text.
New version added support for translating images which means next patch will (most likely) include those as well.

Being able to hook in images sounds like a godsend. I'll test it out when I have access to my main computer (after I get back from nipland)
