Ah, that might be a good thing to note.

The reason the text looks better with that 1.10 code instead of the original is probably because it doesn't have an ENCODEKOR in it, as opposed to the version change.

But I do agree that 1.10 has a number of aspects that make it more desirable than the plain version. If only the plugin didn't crash.

Come to think of it, this is for English text hooking not Korean, so why would we need a command that orders Korean encoding?

Have you tried my plugin (post #189)? I just tested it with TE and dumping lines works fine - though there are few problems with displaying them (multi line text). I'll try to fix them tomorrow.

My plugin also should work with WinXP though I have no way to confirm it.

Sorry, .po and .mo is unfamiliar to me and the unfamiliar is frightening. I'll let people better versed in the nitty gritty of how that stuff works handle it.

I changed the ATCode to not include ENCODEKOR and the forcefont.
I also compiled with a different toolset so that it should work on XP but I have no way of confirming, could someone on XP give me feedback?

I'll change the default ATCode if Jutsuki decides that we'll move to the 1.10 patch

I'd like to move to the 1.10 patch, HOWEVER, I'd like to know why it crashes on the auto-read portion before I do so.

Here's a save just prior to the part that causes the plugin to crash (make sure you have the patch installed, of course).

Also, it's hilarious to see what age is trying to do with mere 2-D sprites

I'll try to tackle this problem tonight.  If it isn't because of the script, this might be tricky...

Isolated the problem rather quickly.  Turns out converting a control character from shiftjis to something else makes it kill itself.

Everything should work using this version with the 1.10 patch.
This plugin should also work on XP but like before, I have no way of testing.

The default ATCode to be copied was also changed to work for the 1.10 version of the game.

As always, let me know if there are issues.

I'm aware that it's slightly out of the scope of what you're designing the plugin for (Before the shimmering time ends), but I was trying to make a dump.txt that includes a translation for the Total Eclipse demo, which both the new and old versions of the plugin choke on any time the game tries to display more than one line of text on screen, which is an issue since it does that a lot (apparently going for NVL format). For example, on something like the second or third line after the demo starts.

Like, it will show the first line, and correctly mark it as missing and write to the txt, but clicking to advance to display the next line on screen below that first line causes a crash.

Would it be possible to take a look at that if you could spare the time?

Not to snub >>204, but as I'm no wizard I would find it easier to work with plain text files than with unfamiliar filetypes.

Thanks.

Well I hope you're not on WinXP, I'm not near a machine with the 2010 toolset to compile right now.

This should handle the ripping with ease.  The text format is fucking weird though, there are newlines inserted before control characters which makes the rip look really ugly.

Let me know how it goes.

Name: unin 2012-11-29 7:33

>>210 This might sound silly, but if all you are trying to do is a text dump, try using the Ewritetool in cached mode instead of using ATCode. it may or may not get the entire text, but rather than crashing cached seems to just ignore things it doesn't like.

Name: Anonymous 2012-11-29 8:36

>>211
Thanks a lot, it does work now.
http://boards.4chan.org/a/res/75527302#p75545793
Of course, the text looks ugly thanks to the format, but it can't be helped.

>>213
Though it's probably worth mentioning that with Araltrans and the plugin the presentation is a bit different from without - without the translation, the game would display several lines on screen before clearing it and moving on, but with the translation every time the text is advanced the previous line is no longer present, so it's sorta chopping it up into separate lines displayed one by one instead of a full block of lines each displayed piecemeal. As reflected in the backlog with the lines all separated instead of tossed in as blocks.
http://boards.4chan.org/a/res/75527302#p75547009
In a sense that might be for the better, since I'm not sure the screen's big enough to accommodate all the text in English what with the increased length, but that's just something interesting to note as a limitation of the current implementation.
I don't really think it's worth worry about it too much since I don't think any other age game does this funny multiline business, and as said earlier the screen probably wouldn't be big enough to have all those lines in English anyway.

Oh man this translation here is really liberalistic.

>栄えある帝国斯衛軍の衛士であり、"篁の姓を名乗る者である以上、"任務遂行は絶対の責務であり、"その内容に自ら甲乙など付けるべきではないのだ。<

>Yui was a soldier of the Japanese Imperial army defense forces. More importantly, she was lucky enough to possess the surname "Takamura." As a Takamura, her sense of duty was the most important thing in her life. Attaining the completion of her objective was something that she could not forego, no matter what.

What I've currently got is
>As surface fighter pilot of the Imperial Royal Guard, possessing the family name Takamura, the accomplishment of the mission was an absolute duty, その内容に自ら甲乙など付けるべきではないのだ。

But that last bit escapes me. Is it something about personal dignity should be kept out of the mission or something?

Can I run something by anyone who cares to listen?

As mentioned above, I was trying to insert the existing translation of the TE demo into the game using NullPointer's plugin.

However on close inspection there appears to have been some pretty liberal rewriting and embellishing, so I tried to reword it to be a bit closer to the original.

But my Japanese ability is definitely almost nonexistent (one only has to look at the timeline on the wiki to know that), and it's very slow going as it's almost a complete retranslation, and a poor one too.

So,
Here's what I've done so far
http://www.mediafire.com/view/?63ce8yg00fby879

And here's his translation
http://www.mediafire.com/view/?k21q55zbbblyqwy

Could someone check it over and judge whether or not that guy's translation is good enough to just be stuck straight in, and if not whether someone else is willing to pick this up? Because I don't think I'll be able to do this anymore with deadlines and midsessional exams approaching.

If it does, I'll have to make a new wraparound algorithm

Well I did find that I had been leaving extra unnecessary empty lines, so the backlog was full of big empty spaces.

It looks more like this when the blank lines are taken out.

That translation (top) isn't so much "liberalistic" as "fucking awful." Literally just making shit up and the tone is 180 degrees wrong.

As for your question, the last part of the line is essentially saying that she doesn't draw personal distinctions between her missions based on their nature. In other words, when given an order, she's expected to carry it out neutrally, regardless of whether it's murdering kittens or helping old ladies cross the street.

Partial Release 1.1 is here! You need a patched version of the game to run this.

I will quickly look over this for you, but I need the original Japanese script for comparison.

Also, based off the single line, the answer is probably no. Whoever "translated" that pretty clearly doesn't know Japanese well enough to attempt a game like this.

Thank you very much.

Here's the original script for the demo as dumped by NullPointer's plugin.

And not on topic, but also thank you very much for all your hard work on Grisaia.

That's the one. You need to run the exe anyplace you like but the game directory, and copy the files you get into the game directory.

By the way, the script there doesn't contain the furigana for stuff like 傘壱型=Wedge 1, 楔弐型=Arrowhead 2, 主縦抗=Main Shaft etc. Maybe that's why he called the first one an umbrella and the second one a wedge.

If you mean the Altered Fable patch, run the executable, extract the contents to a folder of your choice, then copy everything in the folder to your altered fable directory.

This guy is a decent writer but I would strongly advise against using his work as the comprehension level is not where it needs to be.

Line 1. "ハイヴを垂直に貫く『主縦抗』の周囲に張り巡らされた『横抗』を高速で移動していた。<" becomes "Unopposed, the unit rapidly coiled its way downward through the gigantic main shaft, progressing further underground."
-The squad isn't in the vertical main shaft, they are in one of the side tunnels running around it. Bad.

Line 2."...足を踏み入れた者の生還を許さない無慈悲な地下空間に..." becomes "the depths of the earth - a place which few men have ever returned from alive."
-"Few" is a poor choice. The line strongly implies "none."

Line 5. "目前に展開する光のパノラマを黙って見つめていた" becomes "sat in silence in her cockpit, enthralled by the panorama of faint blue light."
-"Enthralled" is not an appropriate word choice.

Line 6. "まるで生身で飛んでいるような錯覚を覚える。" becomes "It was an unforgettable experience - the mesmerizing view all around could easily fool her into thinking that her body was floating along by itself."
-More invention, which wouldn't be so bad if the tone wasn't so wrong. There's no mesmerizing or unforgettable experiences. Makes it sound like she's on a ride at Disneyland or something.

Line 7. "全周を覆い尽くした青白い燐光が奔流となって後方に流れてゆく光景は、醜悪な異星起源種が創造したものとは思えない繊細な美しさを持っていた。" becomes "The surroundings were so... alien... having been created by a species not of this world, beings not even of this solar system. Somehow, the phosphorescence of the seemingly endless cavern evoked a sense of beauty..."
-Hard sentence but this is a major breakdown. Here's a quick (liberal) go: "The all-encompassing phospherence of the tunnels was transformed by their speed into a stream of bluish light; the scenery flowing past possessed a delicate beauty incongruous in a place created by hideous beings from a distant star."

I stopped after line 7.

...I guess that tosses the plan to insert that translation down the drain. And seeing as my own comprehension is nowhere near good enough to do any proper translating either, I suppose the best course of action would be to leave it out there and hope someone else like Jutsuki decides to do it at some point.
