Why do people buy these things anyways? They are overpriced and with every upgrade, you still have the same music player.
1gig iPod Nano costs about 70 dollars. 80gig iPod costs 350 dollars. I'm not seeing the conversion factor here.
Also, I could get a 250gig harddrive for the price of a 1gig iPod nano. Who cares if one is portable, do you even need 80gigs for songs (Protip: You don't).

zune, or gtfo. kidding. but zune really is pretty good, though.

Because all you should take into account is the amount of storage space, right? Not the cost of the electronics, the per-byte cost of different storage media (a 4.3GB blank DVD costs $0.20 - should a 40Gb iPod cost $2.00 then?), not other factors like R&D, marketing, etc. Understand basic economics, then make your argument, imbecile.
I use a pocketpc instead of an ipod, not only does it have touchscreen/phone, it can play mp3, wma, divx and mpeg media
there's also the larger display, the vast number of games (for example morphgear will give you a NES, Gamegear, Gameboy, SNES, Genesis and PC Engine emulator)
Way better than an ipod, sure it's not as small but who wants to squint watching movies on a tiny screen?
zune had the potential to be better than ipod but ms had to infect it with aids before it had a chance to be useful

But, then again DVDs are bigger than iPods(in size), and you can't navigate directories, or play music with JUST a DVD. If you could, everyone would be walking around with a DVD. >>9
and, yeah, I agree. the gay thing about zune, is it doesn't even have a damn clock. wtf is that?

Ipod's(fuck the capital p) are a fashion accessory for middle class people.
They also make theft easy since people don't know how much cash you have on hand, but they know that ipod your showing off is worth a bit.

but think about it for all the money you get the wicked adventure of playing brick...uh okay so maybe it isn't worth the money but like do you really need that many songs with you at all times i listen to like maybe 30 at most the i can tolerate cause you will have a favorite and your if you put it on shuffle then you have to skim through like 80 gigs of songs to get to the one you want to hear...

You fail to understand that the price differential between iPod and iPod Nano include storage type: Flash vs Hard Drive.
Flash makes for a nice small, no moving parts, music player. The tech of Flash costs more than the tech of spinning magnetic discs.

Yea I have nearly filled up my old 40 gig LCD 3rd gen iPod with all music and with video I could easily fill up 80 gigs. Not to mention $350 for a 80 gigs PORTABLE (fits in your pocket easily) music/video player is the best possible deal you can get right now. Fail a little harder

Yeah I just got my first paycheck ever a couple weeks ago and first thing I thought was, "Sweet, I'm going to buy an ipod now so I can listen to my music collection wherever I go, even at work!".
Then I found out they cost like fucking $350. Haha, fuck no. Apple can suck my dick.
Any alternatives to ipod that aren't priced with rich retards in mind? And without any DRM at all. And I don't mean CD players (I got one from 1997, still works).

iPods themselves aren't that bad, it's iTunes (and Apple) that suck ass.

LOL someone's never compared ipod sound to something with better sound!
They're shit. Batteries are shit, DACs are shit, itunes (you're right) is shit, hard drives protection is shit, prices are shit, screens are shit...do you really need me to go on, here?
ipods suck. apple has 100,000,000 sales of ipods? bullshit! not hard to fudge figures when all you do with the faulty return stock is to ship it to another country for resale.
The sound is good if you can afford good monitors, the batteries last a long time if you aren't charging them constantly, the dacs are not as important as you think, hard drive protection is only important if you walk around with sweaty palms, $400 is not that much money these days, and i have not seen a screen problem
How about you go buy a portable tape deck from the future and lurk moar.
I am a whore for quality, sir, which the ipod is. If you were not dumb as shit you could see what a success-oriented portable media player is capable of. There are a lot of things ipods can do that most people will not tell you. You are not locked into itunes because gtkpod exists. 80gb is just about right for anyone that gives enough of a shit about music to carry it around with them.
Really though, I do see the validity of some of the points raised. Zune has neat features that morons will love, it is also made entirely of sunshine, farts, and fail. The generic kekeku ripoffs are cheap, but the interface is always total shit.
ProTip: Notice how the fierce anti-ipod comments read like LiveJournal.

You don't know what a DAC is, do you?
I have built dacs from scratch on breadboards, i think i might have a clue what they do and what role they play in audio equipment.
Prove to me that there is an _audible_ difference between the DAC in an ipod and any other competing player. Since I have unlimited disposable income, I will purchase the player named and test your claim. If you are correct, I'll buy you an internet.

>.<
i had a 20gb ipod, 4th gen
it broke in under a year, within its warranty
the replacement broke within 3 months
then that replacement broke within 3 months
then that replacement broke within 3 months
.... etc etc
i got through 5 ipods
so basically, what apple did before is they sold them at high prices... and still retards BOUGHT new ones when they broke
now theyve lowered the prices slightly, so more retards buy new ones when they break
i hope the world learns its fucking lesson soon

I challenge you to find me an MP3 player better than my 8GB iPod Nano:
Solid state (no hard drive)
Metal body (anodized aluminum)
Best capacity-per-volume ratio I have found (volume as in player size)
Decent interface
Lots of third-party support
No DRM required (plays MP3)
Name:
Anonymous2007-04-22 12:13 ID:15FpobSV

quite easy, really,
anything non-ipod
anodized aluminium, which is 4 sheets of paper thick is not particularly effective against anything that wants to break it, really
the ipod interface is NICE but there are many better eg. zen
third party support --> okay, you've got me there, but you dont need third party support, apple dont want you to have third party support, they want the money for themselves.
pretty much the only drm required player is the zune, which sucks ass.
so basically theres a lesson to be learnt here
you can pick up a better player, cheaper
it will last longer
and not be apple branded, therefore be superior.
I own a Ds with a 2Gb flash drive. 400 songs plus a few books and games is enough.

1. I got an iPod as a gift from my dad or mom or brother or someone, and a pretty much never use it. I understand that it costs a lot to make these things, but for me, it's not worth that much. I do want an iPod enough to pay that much for it.
