How to learn Visual Basic?

Name: Anonymous 2012-09-30 10:22

First of all, yes I do know VB is shit, but at my school, its mandatory to use it, so I have to learn it...even if I want to learn other languages. So I have to ask, what is best way to learn it? What books should I look up, or maybe some internet courses, maybe even videos that would explain it best. Thanks for help.

its mandatory to use it
Run while you still can.

Its too late for me...so now I just have to learn it and I could use help with the material.

Just cheat. Is not worth it to learn that shit

And what would be best language to learn?

Baka. There is no ``best''*. There is just ``worse'' and ``less worse''.

(except lisp)

And could you write some of the "less worse" languages please?

Common Lisp (over-engineered BASIC), Haskell (academic sex toy), Ruby (hip scripting language from Nippon).

Confirming that Ruby is the least worst language of them all.

Any language that does not require an IDE to be productive is a good start.

After that you have to make a choice. Some examples

*A* Speed of execution: C, C++, Haskell, Pascal
*B* Speed of development: Perl, Ruby, Python, PHP (but beware as PHP is shit)

(IMHO, Javascript is somewhat between the two categories.

Also, consider the community and libraries around it. For example you have TONS of c libraries and you'll easily get support on forums for any c problem. Or take Perl, for example. CPAN has thousands of libraries, and the most popular are well designed, and the community is very friendly.

Forget about Java or VB unless you want to be a corporate drone/employee.

I'd like to point out that Common Lisp is a better JavaScript than JavaScript and a better Pascal than Pascal. Also, Perl is as terrible as PHP.

And what about C#?

Also, Perl is as terrible as PHP.

No way. You can't compare having lots of mysql_*, mssql_* functions with a proper interface like DBI.

Or having operators that don't really work as expected. Or inconsistencies like E_ALL (which is not really mean ALL).

http://me.veekun.com/blog/2012/04/09/php-a-fractal-of-bad-design/

I agree that Perl has it's flaws, but is no where near PHP in shittiness.

C# is pretty good. I've worked with C# using command-line compilers and nunit-console, and was very comfortable to work with.

In general, C# feels like a improved Java. And if you work only in Microsoft platforms, then C# is ideal.

C# it is then, thanks. Hopefully cheating will be enough to pass and not have to learn VB

Good choice. As a plus, C# has interoperability with other .NET languages, such as... Visual Basic.

Hurray! Will learning book from CPress (official Microsoft book) suffice for learning?

Sure, it may be ideal, but it is Abalsan ideal?

Your first step should be to develop a plan for unlearning Visual Basic for when you are done and want to do something useful again.

Don't change these.
