How to learn Visual Basic?

Name: Anonymous 2012-09-30 10:22

First of all, yes I do know VB is shit, but at my school, its mandatory to use it, so I have to learn it...even if I want to learn other languages. So I have to ask, what is best way to learn it? What books should I look up, or maybe some internet courses, maybe even videos that would explain it best. Thanks for help.

Any language that does not require an IDE to be productive is a good start.

After that you have to make a choice. Some examples

*A* Speed of execution: C, C++, Haskell, Pascal
*B* Speed of development: Perl, Ruby, Python, PHP (but beware as PHP is shit)

(IMHO, Javascript is somewhat between the two categories.

Also, consider the community and libraries around it. For example you have TONS of c libraries and you'll easily get support on forums for any c problem. Or take Perl, for example. CPAN has thousands of libraries, and the most popular are well designed, and the community is very friendly.

Forget about Java or VB unless you want to be a corporate drone/employee.
