Argument

Why is there so much arguing and general negativity here on /prog/?
Shouldn't /prog/ just be about having fun with programming? Like contests and challenges and programming jokes?

I couldn't agree more with OP. We can all get along with the polecats and EXPERT PROGRAMMERS alike.

Why is there so much arguing and general negativity here on /prog/
because it is on the internet

Haters gonna hate.

/prog/ is rife with arguments because all the neckbeards who toy around with their academic languages are bitter about not being able to do anything useful with them.

The people here are socially inept.

We use them for useful things all the time, otherwise we wouldn't have learned them in the first place, however what we find annoying is the cheap trolling technique of claiming those languages are useless or somehow inferior, usually spewed by those who never even learned those languages to be able to have an opinion of them. 3 points added for forgetting to spoiler your /prog/.

/prog/ is to programming
as CLISP is to newLISP

It's because the most prominent /prog/ poster(posters?) hates everything.

What are you talking about?

Do you drive around in the DMV car? No! That's only meant for learning driving in first place as are those languages. I wouldn't expect you to know but there is more to programming than just learning a programming language.

/prog/ gives me the distinct impression that there is a lot less to programming than learning a programming language. YMMV.

Drawing your conclusions about programming from /prog/ is a bad idea

Conclusions? No no. I drew my own conclusions long before /prog/ was born. Anyone who takes an impression for a conclusion... they will likely die under a bus some day.

Never heard of such a thing, what would the point be?

'Round here you borrow a car from a family member or friend, who pays for the insurance on it and so forth, and take the license test with that. Then you go buy your own car once you have a license.

Don't change these.
