why are we even discussing opera, obviously opera sucks to the point that we probobly should all just ignore the fact that it even exists until it goes away.

1. Firefox is not faster than any other web browser in any noticble way on any speed tests
2. Firefox is very hackable. There are dozens of malicious plugins and exploits. At one point a site could steal your password list with simple javascript.
3. Firefox is financed by Netscape and AOL. Both of those are the worst things to ever happen to technology.
4. Firefox is evil for its poor support of accessibility for the disabled.
5. Firefox has google advertisements and spyware
6. Firefox is not able to render every webpage correctly according to web standards
7. Firefox has a Furry for a mascot
8. Firefox is not written by idiots in India who wipe their asses with their hands
9. Firefox is open source, and that has no practical value for you.
10. Firefox has no active x security holes, it has its own security holes with its proprietary plugin architecture.

Name: Anonymous 2008-12-12 22:00

firefox is open source, but the source is so messy it doesn't do any good to you unless you're willing to spend 6 months reading it to figure out how to fix a bug that should be trivial to fix. also, because of the non-free license, once you fix the bug your bug fix is unusable to anyone else unless you release it under a non-free license too.

Name: Anonymous 2008-12-12 22:12

As of yet, Firefox doesn't support multi-touch gestures for MB/MBPs. I'll stick with Safari until that's implemented, kthx.

Name: Anonymous 2008-12-12 22:20

>>20
They're supported in 3.1. I'd take the beta of Firefox 3.1 over Safari any day, but then again I'm not using OS X.

Name: Anonymous 2008-12-12 22:42

>>19
also, because of the non-free license, once you fix the bug your bug fix is unusable to anyone else unless you release it under a non-free license too.
Only complete tools give a damn. It's still open source, and the code you're writing is going to go into Firefox. What the fuck do you care if someone THEORETICALLY COULD copy it to use elsewhere? Either it would be entirely irrelevant outside of Firefox, or it's so simplistic that arguing about the license would be pedantic wankery and of no useful value to anyone.
Fucking Debianfags.

>>20
Are you saying OS X leaves the implementation of multiple finger taps to the client application? I was under the impression that it was handled similarly to how xorg does it, i.e. by assigning mouse "button" events to various things.

Name: Anonymous 2008-12-12 23:10

opera is slightly better but I wont use their closed source crap

Name: Anonymous 2008-12-12 23:45

Ignorant faggots.

If you fix something in the firefox code yourself does not mean that it will be included in the fucking "master" firefox version.

It's free as in, you are free to do what you want as long as either:
1. You kept it all to yourself (no one will download your custom version faggot)
2. Some ex-Netscape/AOL idiot takes the time to approve it, which rarely ever happens.

The practical application of open source being a community support application is a fucking myth. The code changes in the main fork are still as tightly controlled as any closed source app.

Fucking idiot faggots.

Because a web browser allows you to open a hyperlink without having to look at the html source, copy the link's url and open a new instance of the browser with that url.

Where 50 weeks is a short time period. And you area faggot.

One reason FireFox is superior is because it has these rapid fire incremental releases that really don't add much, fix much and end up braking a lot.

It is. /prog/ is an ancient community of Satori Programmers. We do not see time as you do for we have seen eternity, and routinely manipulate the infinites when we conjure the spirits of the computer with our spells. 50 weeks is short when you can conjure powerful towers of abstraction to last for the centuries to come.
