I'm one lazy motherfucker

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-09 14:48

I've been so lazy these last 4 years I've almost forgotten how to write decent code. Now I got a job as a programmer and I have only 5 days to get in shape. Along with my daily SICP and some K&R, I need some serious books about Perl, OpenGL Programming and OOP ( expecially C++ ), otherwise I'll have to accept a job as a FIOC and Java programmer. Suggestions? Right now I can code shit in C89/C99 and C++, even if I barely remember the syntax.
Please, I don't wanna work with Indian guys coding FIOC. It's every /prog/grammer's nightmare, you know it.

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-09 14:51

I would love a job where I can code in FIOC.

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-09 14:55

FIOC sucks, I use emacs and I don't fucking indent my code before I finish the job.

You'd rather write perl and C++ than python and java? Are you retarded?

No, I just need money. The C++/Perl Job pays about 800 $, the Python/Java one just 400 $ ( it's some plugin development job crap ). If I were a neckbearded motherfucker living in my mom's basement without caring about bills and rent I'd say the same, though.
Plus, no Indians and Chinks getting shit done before and better than me in C++/Perl job.

They'd bust me.

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-10 10:40

They'd bust me.
I don't know what you are thinking but the purpose of >>6 is supposed to be an idea to get you working your programming brain. What better way to get back into code by extending some open source program?

At least you're not as lazy as that Haskell guy, eh?

You're doing it wrong.

Seconded, until I read >>9

>>3
Stupid. Also, I wouldn't hire you. I don't allow my co-workers to leave their code unindented for more than 15 seconds while they finish with the current line, and I'd rather have them write it properly indented from the start.

Why? I specially enjoyed the examples; they were witty. As I learnt C with K&R a long time ago, I was like "I see what you did there".

K&R C is not used anymore. C99, you bitch.

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-12 12:40

C99 doesn't exist yet.  GNU C89 with BSD libs, you bitch.

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-12 12:52

BSD is free, as in one step away from proprietary.

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-13 15:26

K&R is good to start with the PORTABLE ASSEMBLY LANGUAGE C. The differences between K&R C and C99 (or rather, GNU C which is what you'll be using) are minimal and you can pick them up easily once you know the language.

gnu shit is free, as in you better keep that source code after you compile it, because if you don't and everyone else who has the source code either decides they don't want to distribute it or is somehow not able to distribute it anymore there's no way to legally distribute those binaries.

if the source code is lost, the binaries may still be useful.
unless it's GPL'd. if it's GPL'd you're screwed.

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-14 0:01

>>32
If the source code is lost, I doubt anyone cares enough to enforce the GPL on it. Also, surely the original owners can relicense it in such a case.

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-14 1:30

>>32
So you lose the right to distribute one GPLd binary. This is bad because:

I'll always release anything I do in my spare time and, whenever possible, at work, under the GPLv3. If I ever do any kind of art (most probably a book of some sort), it'll be released under a Creative Commons Non-commercial Share-alike license. And should a more commercially restrictive license than GPLv3 appear (such as one prohibiting interaction with DRMed or patented software), I'd adopt it.

It's not just a matter of freedom. It's a matter of my anus being sore from being raped over and over by big corporations with their patents, digital restrictions malware and imaginary property. During my life, I'll do as much harm as I can to these corporations.

No, I'm not a commie; I hate those lazy asses. I'm a working person who wants people who work to get paid by how hard and well they work. Just exactly because of this, I can't stand imaginary property motherfuckers who live on a work once, charge forever basis.

Abolish imaginary property now!

Actually, you can just link back to the original webpage where you got the source, or extend an offer to retrieve the source for them at any time for no more than the cost of distribution.

Are you also one of those idiots that thinks "I have to have source on my shell server because people could scp out of /bin"?

Also, The C Programming Language (Second Edition) is ANSI C. That was published maybe what, when ANSI C came out? Do you people keep your head buried in the FIOC sand?

The anticudders are strong with this thread, and I imagine I will not be returning without my best and sharpest pair of parentheses. May the Sussman be with you all.

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-14 11:28

>>37
read the license. that only works if you obtained it in binary form, not if you compiled it from source.
