Lack of SICP discussion is troubling

Name: Anonymous 2008-06-24 21:28

Hello /prog/ers the lack of discussion of SICP is troubling to me.  Have visitors stopped reading/watching lectures?  Have all the members gained complete understanding of said book/lectures?

Also what about SICM?

Let us make an effort to discuss these and other teachings of sussman's.

"mathematical notation fundamentally sucks"
what is the Sussman saying for d in "d/dt"?
"stallman and i worked on a program that does this and does what i do"  where is this program that embodies the Sussman

Strange that you should make this thread, because I'm going to be taking a course in September that uses SICP.

I just started reading SICP and now I know why you guys were so addicte to getting others to read it. It's so fucking AWESOME, and to think I haven't even reached Satori yet.

All the SICP PDFs I've seen so far were generated from spidering the MIT site, and hence contain such things as images instead of properly typeset equations, rather aliased figures, and other annoyances.

The problem with thick books is that it's hard to get clean scans without cutting them up, and thin paper doesn't combine with dark pictures on the other side well.
Still, nothing Photoshop and/or low standards won't fix.

Seriously guys, I think you're going too far. I know it's stupid to tell this to Anonymous, but I wouldn't turn the respect we have for the Sussman into something he might not like if he saw it. And we're easily reachable via Google if you Google for Lisp-related stuff.

I see the Sussman as a super-hero, along with the Abelson. They're like Superman and Batman; the former is all about purity; the later is darker but gets the job done and does just as good a service to the world.
