Why does the US support Israel?

Name: Anonymous 2008-04-09 17:29

I can't think of any advantages to the US supporting Israel, but I can think of a whole bunch of disadvantages.

Two strawmans and six ad hominems?  It's a page from the Alan Dershowitz school of argument.

Yeah, having the most powerful country in the middle east as an ally is a serious disadvantage.

looks like it:

US support for Israel was a “major cause” of the 9-11 attacks, according to University of Chicago Professor John Mearsheimer and Harvard Professor Stephen Walt, who appeared at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology last week to promote their book The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy.

“A critically important issue when talking about America’s terrorism problem is the matter of how US support for Israel’s brutal treatment of the Palestinians relates to what happened on September 11,” said Mearsheimer, who played the role of attack dog, while Walt set the stage.

Mearsheimer suggested that the notion of payback for injustices suffered by the Palestinians is perhaps the “most powerfully recurrent in [Osama] Bin Laden’s speeches,” who, he said, had been deeply concerned about the plight of the Palestinians since he was a young man. He said that Bin Laden’s concern had been reflected in his public statements throughout the 1990’s - “well before 9-11.” Citing the 9-11 Commission report, Mearsheimer and Walt argued that Bin Laden wanted to make sure the attackers struck Congress because it is “the most important source of support for Israel in the United States,” adding that Bin Laden twice tried to move up the dates of the attacks because of events involving Israel. Mearsheimer and Walt went on to argue that 9-11 architect Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s animus toward the United States stemmed not from his experiences in the United States as a student, but rather from his violent disagreement with US foreign policy favoring Israel. “Its hard to imagine more compelling evidence of the role US support for Israel played in the 9-11 attacks,” said Mearsheimer.

“In short, the present relationship between Washington and Jerusalem is helping to fuel America’s terrorism problem,” he went on to say.

sigh.. another ad hominems.  you haven't written on substantive argument yet.  you're either a terrible troll or another typical Israelfag.

Also, here's a fact:  Israel kills six times as many civilians as the Arabs.

Maybe the fact that Israel has about 300 nuclear weapons?

Ever think of that, cuntface?

Name: Anonymous 2008-04-09 19:11

Israel has never officially admitted to having nuclear weapons

What's so hard about this folks?  USA supports Israel because it feels it's good to have an ally in the region.  If shit gets really bad we can use Israel as a base from which to stage military campaigns.

On top of that Israel is the only democratic country in the region.  America is so fucking caught up in its campaign to "spread democracy" that it can't not support Israel.  Supporting Israel and making democracy look like it's better than everything else in the middle east goes along way for the cause.

For fucks sake, do you faggots have any ability to think?

|If shit gets really bad we can use Israel as a base from which to stage military campaigns.

Oh whoops, you forgot about US military bases in Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, and Afganhistan.  You also forgot about the US military presence in Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, UAE, and Turkey.  It's not 1970 anymore, do you have any other ancient, tired arguments you want to trot out?  Oh wait, you made another one...

|On top of that Israel is the only democratic country in the region.

Lebanon is democratic and so are the Palestinians.  You can't ignore them just because they vote in people you don't like.  Also, Israel (and the US) are actively working against democracy in Egypt because the Egyptians are rational people and if they could freely vote they would choose a president opposed to Israel's idiotic policies.

Colonialism is dead faggot and both of your arguments are outdated and lame.  Any reasonable person would see that Israel a militant, land-grabbing, aggressive apartheid nation. Also, all the Chrisitan republicunts are dying out which means the US is about to make a major shift to the left.

Israel is going to be isolated big time LMAO!

You can never have too many bases.  If it were up to the military they'd have bases in EVERY country.

There is no reason to support Israel.  US policy in the mideast is mired in antiquated 60 year old policies.

ITT: People believe that Muslims actually give a shit about "Jews occupying their lands"

That is just a rallying cry. If it wasn't Israel, it would be southern Spain. Muslims in the middle-east in general (and I hate to generalize) are all sheep.

They go to their mosques or religious schools where they are told by people who usually have more money that the Jews are the reason they are poor and that if there are no Jews god will be happy and bestow wealth on you (or some other anti-Israel bullshit). Meanwhile, the ultra-rich Muslims who run these countries keep wages low and their profits high and blame the Jews for it.

The truth is: Muslims are the cause of their own suffering and are more than willing to be lied to.

The US stands with Israel BECAUSE THEY ARE THE CLOSEST THING THAT THE MIDDLE EAST HAS EVER SEEN TO A DEMOCRACY. Because of the "religion of peace" has a no-tolerance police when it comes to non-Muslims, if there is no Israel, there would be no non-Muslims in the middle east.

If Muslim nations where more tolerant and less full of the bullshit called Islam, the US would have no need to support Israel because the stuck-in-the-15th-century retards would not be blaming all their problems on someone else and work towards bettering everyone, not just those in their own tribe!

Turkey is allied with us AND Israel. In fact, they're the principal ally of Israel in the region. They also are democratic, and have a secular law rather than one based on shariah.

So, I believe that actually you have lost.

Israel doesn't make America do anything.
Quite to the contrary, America holds the reigns on Israel.
If it wasn't for America holding Israel back, most of the Middle East would be wiped out by Israel.

Name: Anonymous 2008-04-11 14:57

Why not let israel run game on the middle east?  Since we're so chummy with them they'd be a lot easier to deal with in obtaining oil.  Really, why protect the rest of the fucking sand apes?  Do they do anything that helps humanity at all?

Name: Anonymous 2008-04-11 15:06

If Israel unleashes on the Middle East, ALL oil production and exportation stops from there. That's not good for us.

rriiight
that's not how the world works, neither the US nor israel would go after such a catastrophic action. Israel can barely contain the handful of palestinians they have, what will they do with millions of arabs under their control? They might not know how to fucking fight on a battlefield, but they are pretty good on rebelling and randomly exploding in public transportation.

Name: Anonymous 2008-04-11 17:04

israel is nice, shut up

and no, it shouldn't take over the entire middle east, I mean, why?

Name: Anonymous 2008-04-11 17:17

>>28
Well, lets leave out all the crazy stuff.  Is there really any reason that Israel should be held back from doing whatever it wants to do?  They're a sovereign nation, so why shouldn't they be allowed to make their own mistakes?

Sure, you might have to step in if they were going on a genocidal rampage, but if they're just bombing Iran's nuke facilities.... I see no problems with this.

Name: Anonymous 2008-04-11 18:29

quite the contrary america holds some reign over israel and america needs not cover for israel...israel can do that well enough by its own. Plus america keeps israel in its pocket as a secondary LZ for ops in mideast. Plus do you think a new country with so much internal strife really has the time to be keeping another country in its reigns when it dosent even have its own...learn to read america has reign over israel not the other way around. America makes its own decisions not effected by anyone else. And israel dosent want control of the entire mideast... just the portion of land the size of new jersey.

There's no way anyone can look at all the Jews in the American government, the finance industry, and the media/entertainment industry, and NOT honestly conclude WHY the US shows such support for Israel.  The Jews may only be 3% of the American populace, but they wield x10 larger economic influence due to their professional positions.
