I listen to real emo/screamo. 33 knows what he is talking about. God damn you people are ignorant about genres. Emo isn't that shit on MTV, the term was hijacked by marketing groups years ago from the original emotional hardcore. Emo isn't whiney songs about suicide. Emo isn't mascara and girls pants. Emo is hardcore punk with more intelligent lyrics (often about social and political issues) and more creative, intricate musicianship. Emo would be bands like Circle Takes The Square, Hot Cross, City of Caterpillar, Orchid, etc.

You should try cutting through your neck instead. You'll find killing yourself is much easier that way. There's also a vital vein deep within your groin which can kill you if punctured, but that one is a little bit more tricky.

im not a fan of anything remotely emo but ive done my research (hey u gotta know ur enemy!) and you sir are correct with your info.
furthermore emo is just a clothing style and 'lifestyle' that is wholly inept of social or personal growth and there is a large margin of sexism within the music as well along with no inspirational or unique themes within the music. its Goth gone wrong. Not to mention the obvious stolen factor the emo scene. The hair-used to be a goth look, tight pants-oldschool metal/punk look, the piercings and tattoos are an obvious generic rock ripoff to excess, and not to mention the shirts are just atrocious and looks like Picasso had horrible case of the shits on it. The music is talentless and cookie cutter, and 99.9% of the emo kids live in rich suburbia with a mom and a dad and have no real problems to speak of. its all a gimmick. They are all clones and that whole ideology of anti-conformity is a fucking joke. People who have real problems don't dress or openly show it like emo kids portray it as. People with REAL problems keep to themselves and dont want to be noticed. Emo kids give ppl with real problems and any modicum of emotion a bad rep. Thanx to those emo faggots you cant feel human without being labeled as 'emo' Not to mention the social confusion-example: i was at the local mall not too long ago and i was wearing black boots, black jeans, a SLAYER shirt, my biker jacket, and my Thors Hammer; some A&F jackoff walks by and calls me emo...WTF? okay, i'm pretty sure everyone who just posted here doesn't know what emo really is about.
1) cutting yourself doesn't make you 'emo'. it just means you're a self harmer, and you should find better ways of releasing inner troubles.
2) 'emo' came from the original roots of punk in the 1980s, when punk had a lot of weird sounding screams, and thrashy drums & guitar. emo lost a lot of the thrashiness; the music became a tad more technical, and the main thing you could hear from the singer's voice and screams was.. emotion. not to mention the typically poetic lyrics. bands like Saetia are what 'emo' is all about. a modern band who takes heavy influence from them is Circle Takes The Square.. if anyone here's interested in emo, you should really check them out.
3) emo is NOT the clothing fashion people like to associate it with. that's just 'scene'. in my opinion, and my opinion only, scene is just a cross between punk, and visual kei. i could go into detail about how the whole 'emo' trend has been brought back to life this century, and how/why it's being confused with scene kids, but i really cbf.
i've explained what the real emo is about. escape the fate isn't emo for the record. they're closer to post-hardcore, i guess. people confuse that a lot, as well.. which is so unfortunate. :\

Not a huge fan of legit emo music, a la Fugazi, Saetia, Sunny Day Realistate. More of a hardcore guy myself. Post hardcore (which is often mislabeled as emo) is actually one of my favorite genres too though.
