/r9k/ - ROBOT9000

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-21 23:23

Looks like MOOT wants original content, so he made this board. Allow me to poast the instructional sticky and the link:

http://img.4chan.org/r9k/imgboard.html

/r9k/ is a board with no reposts.
Rules/observations/etc:
1. If you attempt to post something unoriginal, it is not posted.
2. In this case you are muted temporarily.
3. The time with which you are muted for increases with each transgression.
4. Each mute time is 2^n (thanks, mathsfags) in seconds where n is the number of times you have transgressed. So, your mute time is the amount of fuck ups you have made to the power of two, in seconds.
5. Quotes, eg >>1, are not viewed by R9K. So "lolwut" and ">>2 lolwut" are the same post, in the eyes on R9K.
6. Gibberish at the end of a post to force originality is punished with the full force of the banhammer. Even testing R9K's parameters seems to draw the ire of the mods.
6(2). Images are included. Slight changes in exif data, etc, however, seem to circumvent this rule, but like with text if you break the filter the REAL LIVE MODS will banhammer you.
8. Your mute count never resets or goes backwards.
9. You cannot post a picture without text.
10. You cannot impersonate moot.
11. Unicode is blocked. Sorry, too many exploits (Cyrillic letters, etc)
12. The too low in content filter was broken for a while, resulting in a lot of crappy mutes. Sorry.
13. Post sane, real content, well thought out replies, and mutes are unlikely.

Here is the thread where we can waste all the words: http://img.4chan.org/r9k/res/74868.html#76151

Scratch the last bit. Thread just died. Anyway, waste some werds.

Too many rules.  Extreme gayness detected.  Auto-defenses engaged:

/r9k/ FAILS IT!

You dare to challenge the word of Moot?

Moot is the biggest faggot of us all.
/r9k/ board is in direct violation of a rule. What the fuck is Moot thinking?!

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-22 8:57

get rid of 4 and 8.
they are unfair, esp if you writ something long and its "no original".
im up to 30 mins, and its annoying

Sir, what's all this? Bumping an outdated thread?
My my, you're quite bold...

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-22 8:59

>>8
1) Way to bump a five year old thread

2) I think he already fixed that, no? Guess not.

3) Back to /r9k/, please

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-22 9:03

I was amazed at how /r9k/ progressed. It actually enforces originality, yet it still managed to end up stinking like a dead hobo covered in shit.

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-22 9:18

>>11
I guess enforcing originality is not the problem then. Maybe it works for XKCD's IRC, but not for a 4chan imageboard.

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-22 14:38

I usually go to /r9k/, copy a post from Gaia online and wait for 200 replies +

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-22 17:48

I could have told someone that constant originality was not a good thing if they brought even this vague concept back a 1000 years ago, here's why, plain and simple:

Evolution.

The way things work in life is the same way things work in ideas, why do you think the word meme was created by an evolutionary biologist?
The good ideas are repeated while the bad ideas fall into the abyss.

Robot9000's basic idea will never work with anything, imagine a world where life dies at the same rate no matter how good or bad it is. Just for a second. I can't because in my mind, it wouldn't even exist, life itself would die, None of us would exist.

Imagine the same thing with inventions, imagine that the good inventions were not held above the radically flawed ones, we would have nothing we have today, surely not the internet that I am typing this to.

And of course on 4chan we are simply dealing with jokes, imagine that all jokes just died the second the first person told it, that it was forever banned from being said thereafter, no matter how funny or stupid, that they were treated the same and gone for all time.

We don't have to, as the xkcd guy created it for us to see, and he called a success.

Hmm, maybe you're right. I must admit that I do make a lot of threads and posts here. Nah, who cares. >:D

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-26 7:51

>>19
Something evolved is still counted as original by ze robot.
And "robots" are not like us i might add, when someone posts something funny they immediately go "OMG THATS SO DISGUSTING!!" or "TROLL 4/10". And sometime ago some gay man posted this lame ass highschool drama romance story, and everyone was screaming in the thread, "OMG THIS IS SO GOOD POST MORE POST MORE!!"

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-26 7:54

Agreed. Though /r9k/ was an awesome board when it first started out. Though, probably the same can be said for all 4chan/world4ch boards.

Here's your problem, buddy: You're twelve. Please leave for the next six years. When you return please stay in /r9k/ where you belong. Never come back to world4chan. Understood?

I don't know exactly how the robot judges originality, but lets just say for simplicity's sake that the same exact post can't be made twice. Of course this is going to be a disaster in the very long run, but as long as the poster has something worthwhile and relevant to say, there wont be too much of a problem in the short run. And it can always be secretly reset.

If you're going to make a detailed post – take this one for example – then what are the odds that someone has already or will in the future make this exact same post? Of course the situation depends heavily on the exact workings of the robot. For all I know only part of the post has to be literally the same for it to judge it a repost. Obviously only a fool would make such a thing. And moot happens to be one. Oh dear...

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-27 9:41

dont blame moot, he just tried to make a new old /b/ and failed. because he never realized the true problem which is that 4chan needs mods, mods who ban people alot. just like snacks did, its no wonder they wish him back so desperatly.

Randall Munroe made a post once back a long time ago about his "success" with this idea in a xkcd chatroom.
He said that it was better than all other forms of moderation for large groups on the internet, or as I said, a success.
But it quite obviously isn't.
And he doesn't even discuss the whole "repetition is how things evolve" deal, he seems to think the biggest problem is that you can't say "Yeah.".

He also doesn't dicuss the fact thta if yu mspel thangfs that udder ppl hav sayd than its stil counted az nu.
Which isn't as big of a problem, but is an inherent flaw in the text based word-filter version we're talking about.

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-27 16:46

>>37
Also, have you even checked out #xkcd? The IRC channel has way too many people talking in there all at once, but the channel where the robot is implemented #xkcd-signal, it's barely even used. Really, Robot9000 is an experiment that has clearly failed. Both the XKCD IRC channels and the 4chan imageboard prove that.

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-27 17:03

seriously shit like this wouldnt happen if we all had mouses and chairs with little electrodes that check if you have conntact with them and send signals to your computer every few miliseconds to make sure you cannot use the internet without having conntact with these.
so far so good, you still folowing?
now, the chair would have a builtin powersource that if the circuit would be open, electricity would go from the chair, trough your body and be grounded at the mouse. and now the chair would be attached to the computer, where it would receive signals on how much power should be sent trough your body and could kill you if needed. given this, the only thing missing would be a kind of software in which people can vote to open the curcuit or not to, and everytime someone votes for opening it, it would start sending a samll amount of voltage trough your body and if enught votes are available it would kill you.

Name: Anonymous 2011-01-18 3:49

/r9k/ sort of failed in its objective: to be a board where original content is forced by a filter. I also think it became inadequate after a while since ROBOT9000 was originally written to filter IRC noise and not forum/imageboard noise.

Name: Anonymous 2011-01-18 4:38

I KILLED /R9K/
OH GOD IT'S TRUE
Last night, in this thread on /soc/ about fags(cigarettes) moot came in, and naturally people started to ask him questions, so I asked "Do you actually like /r9k/ or do you think they're all losers?(because he posted a sticky a while ago saying we made him laugh, good or bad, who knows) and then I asked some shit about /diy/.
Moot replied that /r9k/ was a shadow of it's former self...
