Why does everyone want a remake of FFVII?

Maybe they'll do it right?

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-19 16:39 (sage)

Same reason they played and can't stop circle jerking over FFVII to begin with.
They have no fucking clue what a videogame is.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-19 16:53

So how was mars?

Everyone wants a remake of it because it was a great game and they want to play it with the benefits that are available with newer tech.  such as better graphics and animation.
I don't think a remake will deliver in the way people hope though, because in the intervening years since it first came out , virtually every aspect of it has been ripped off in some way or other by other games, and what you can never recapture is originality.

The original game is still great though.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-19 17:16

The main issue will be doing Cloud's hair in high resolution 3D.  In the original it changed size quite a bit.

Are you fucking kidding me?

FF7 was the beginning of the end. It opened the flood gates to a new demographic that only appreciated games with expensive non-playable visuals. 3D for the sake of being 3D. Potentially killing the console industry because nothing has improved over time except graphics.

And since sony and square "created" this new demographic, they can continue to feed off of it. It's every industries wet dream, they pracitcally created their own monopoly.

graphics didn't sell games pre-ff7 then? why didn't you complain so loudly about the cutscenes in tg16 games? scd games? by your definition wasn't ninja gaiden on the NES the beginning of the end?

>>10

Who the fuck bought a tg16 or scd? lol

Sony's success was built off alot of aspects. One being they capitalized on the misfortunes of others. So they got a big advantage by a simple fluke. Due to nintendo's and sega's dumbassery.

I wouldn't call FF7 the beginning of the end but the end of the good stuff. FF7 was natural progression if you ask me but Squaresoft has failed to deliver since with a steady decline in the quality of their flagship brand.

For their sake, FF 12 and 13 had better be something special or they need to dump the FF series altogether and start over with something new. As a long-time fan of the FF series, I hate to say it but... you know.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-19 21:55

FF7 is overplayed like Chrono Trigger. Both games are not even above so-so.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-19 22:23

Instead of remaking FF7, I'd rather see Squenix use their resources to make something even better, such as a proper sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics!!

You're the only one "claiming" it as such. And I've no intention of defending what you're claiming I did.

What position are you in to categorize others?

>>15

Lmao, go back to penny-arcade as you sound like one of those retards who have to resort to such a mind set as to add value to their lives which I imagine they find a lacking satisfaction of.

I'd rather see them never make another game with Final Fantasy in the title ever, anyone who thinks any of them (spare for four of them and mind you not a single one of those four are FF1-13) are any good doesn't know what a videogame is plain and fucking simple.
BOTH companies used to make amazing games, and again none of them had only final fantasy and a number in the title. But ever since FF7 and preteens in the late 90s and even during FF7's development (hi xenogears second disk) square turned to shit, and ever since buying them and deciding "let's just milk the ff fanboys with them" enix has pretty much done the same.
But it isn't even just these companies that suffer this "let's not do anything new or original" curse, Halken used to make THE shit and once the Kirby games were legendary (superstar, dl3, dreamcourse, adventure) but now are shit (see: air ride, canvas curse, capcom made gba games, and which brings up another company who is also guilty of this) they even fucked up smash brothers on only the second iteration of the series. Melee was so fucking horrible it prompted Masahiro to be so disgusted that he was forced to put the shit out that he left the company, though probably another part of that is that Sakurai was also no longer with Hal, which would explain why he joined Nintendo later, besides of course needing money.
The point is this, ff7 is the beginning of the end, it and its fanfags are the essence of the snarling ugly digusting fucking beast Sakurai has named sequelization, it is the literal antithesis of originality and WILL destroy videogaming as we know it.
However this is probably a good thing, considering you can't really create anything truly new without a destruction to set up a clear canvas, an industry crash is very much welcome considering looking back on all the good shit that appeared after the last one, coming from that with the addition of all these companies that are just churning the shit going under and no longer providing fanboys with shit to mindlessley jack off over, we should be in for an awesome time 5 or 10 years or so down the line.

Actually Chrono Trigger is best Japanese RPG ever made. Ironically it's also first one. Play actually good games people and you will see what's wrong with Final Fantasy.

RPG stands for JRPG

It has to be turn based,

I find that very ironic considering that best turnbased RPGs and other games are actually American and Russian made.

Sadly /v/ seems to be filled with people who know nothing. Oh well, it's your choice to play crappy JRPGs when there's stuff like Fallout with dynamic plot. Oh and Japanese make extremely good fighting and arcade games, but not good RPGs.

Opinion much man?  You can't clearly define who makes good games and who doesn't.

I really don't understand the mentallity of someone who can so blatantly make a statement claiming that one variable can be so perfectly better than another, when the enjoyment of said variables are totally variant depending on who is indulging themeselves with them.

Please, try to think rationally before yuo make more statements like this, I'm not even trying to make you look dumb, I'm just telling you something you should know.

Actually you can define who makes good games and who doesn't, it is simple.
Play a game, if it is good and playable, remember the publisher and developer, also (AND THIS IS IMPORTANT) the YEAR of the release, if it sucks, remember the same parties but just write them down in th exact opposite list.
PRESTO! With enough time looking into the entire library of videogaming, you will have a complete list with an accurate depiction of who makes and publishes what.
Of course, you can't directly weigh amerikan and weeaboo in lump sums against each other, they both make a huge load of shit and once had made some pretty keen ass shit AT ONE TIME.
Example of who made good games:
Electronic Arts in the 80s
Example of who makes shit games:
EA after they started engulfing development houses got lazy and instead of making their own games, became purely a publisher.

That's just to start you off, but using this you can so easily slam in a shitfuckington of entries proportional to the amount of games that have ever been released, and don't give me this fucking relativity bullshit, just because a RETARD thinks shit is pretty neat doesn't mean it ain't shit and that the fucking idiot isn't a retard, example: anyone who plays GTA past 3.
YOU CAN EASILY FUCKING TELL WHAT IS A GAME DONE RIGHT AND WHAT IS NOT. And so long as you aren't discussing the matter with a casual newbie retard, you'll find your findings and those of others (again, only the others that matter and know their shit, this cannot fucking be stressed enough) are suprisingly similar.

GOOD LUCK ON YOUR QUEST TO FIND OUT WHAT VIDEOGAMES ARE, WEEABOOS AND AMERIKANS Actually no wait, you're both retards, stop playing videogames and go back to watching movies please, I'm tired of your buying power shitting up the place, turning it into an industry and forcing the scared publishing houses at the top to churn out lowest common denominator bullshit just to turn a goddamn profit off people who truly do not know what the fuck videogaming is.

And use a database program like Access to keep track of it all.

If you can't figure out access, then turn your computer off and read a book, because you have failed at basic technology.

Christ, you missed the whole point.  It's fine for you to personally have a favorite company or whatnot, but in your original post, you called out everyone, claiming, "/v/ seems to be filled with people who know nothing."  All because some of them like games you hate.  Your taste in videogames does not determine the universal good and bad of videogame developing.

No matter what argument you throw at me, you can't prove yourself right.  So please just realize the stupidity you carried with you in your original post, and how much of it you still have with you.

>Your taste in videogames does not determine the universal good and bad of videogame developing.
Actually, it happens to do just that.

>you called out everyone
because everyone both reads and posts on /v/, also as if half the people who go there don't feel the exact same fucking way.
>It's fine for you to personally have a favorite company or whatnot
YOU missed MY point, this isn't about favorite companies is it about KNOWING what is in undeniable fact a solid playable game, not some trite churned out bullshit to appease a mass that no matter how many times they try just cannot even begin to grasp the concept of electronic interactive entertainment in its core let alone its fucking fullest.
Knowing company names only helps make the process of finding out which side a game belongs in become slightly easier, no where did I say you should be a mouthbreathing fanboy who gladly eats the most garbage ass shit they crap out onto a plate just because it came out of their not caring about videogames asses.

Wow, a Final Fantasy VII thread turned into a good games vs. bad games thread. While they are intrinsicly related because of the love/hate relationship people have with FF7, this is getting off topic.

Now relate your posts directly to why people want to see another FF7 and we'll talk.

Because I, myself am off-topic with this post, I will make an on-topic comment. Personally, I don't want Squeenix to remake FF7. I have a feeling that they would fuck it up like nearly everything else they've touched in the last 5+ years, Enix side excluded.
