Bit Torrent Clients

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-13 1:22

currently, my bitTorrent client, utorrent is slagging at a terrible 3.4kbs.

Does anyone have any advice on optimizing this so I can quicker and better downloads out of it?

utorrent 1.4?

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-13 8:43

although i have a suspicion that 1.4 artificially limits my download speed...

Client version has nothing to do with download speed. My laptop likes uTorrent because it uses only 7 megs of memory and a few % of processor, Azureus (because of java) sometimes needed about 50 MB and a half of processor. And functions are same.

Yes, it does. Not all clients follow the specifications fully. For example, Bitcomet prefers other Bitcomets. Updates more often etc. Not to mention all the mods that lies about upload counts.

utorrent guys say 1.4 is more aggressive and watches out for Bitcomets now.

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-14 0:32

utorrent limits download based on upload. unbelievable.

http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=4673

i am stopping using it now.

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-14 1:19

lmfao way to screw a decent client up

I think this is one of the stupidest thing you can do with a P2P client. I stopped using emule and the whole network because it was shitty and didn't let me download at max speed while I had to upload at nearly the most my connection could do. My computer is on all the time so I can seed shit for months at a time at rather steady pace but when I download I want to at least get the stuff as fast as possible regardless of how fast I am capable of uploading!

I still got an old version of utorrent though, I use it for seeding stuff sometimes when AFK. But bitcomet is a lot better while running in background and playing games.

I'm not noticing any difference wit 1.4, so.........

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-14 6:38

Haha, a fucking client that tries to police its user. That's rich. You're not in control, these self-righteous programmers are. Kind of reminds me of DRM.

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-14 7:50

i thought bittorrent is supposed to be some kind of gay 1 to 1 download/updload thing. I always get a ratio of 0.1-0.2 when I'm done downloading?

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-14 8:28

That's a misconception. A 1:1 ratio is impossible for everyone to achieve. Simple maths. On the other hand, if everyone seeds until he has reached a 1:1 ratio then the torrent will survive for much longer.

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-14 9:08

Holy fucking shit. I'm leaving this client as soon as Kaze No Yojimbo is done. Thank you for the information.

My ISP caps my upload to 200kbit from 1000 if I upload too much. How's that for a reason, you assholes? I'm making a forum post over there.

lol, that's what you get for using closed source software

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-14 12:42

open source software is for gay faggots

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-14 12:47

closed source software is for windowsgay faggots

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-14 12:54

Open source software is for loser geek faggots who feel the need to 'rebel' against what is an accepted standard.
Losers.

Notice that that thread mentions that uTorrent only limits your downstream if your upstream cap is set to something in 1-5 KB/s. While this does seem a bit underhanded to me, it doesn't say anything about limits for larger upstream caps.

You're retarded. If bloatware that doesn't work properly is an "accepted standard," I suppose you're right. And let's not forget the "accepted standards" that Microsoft chooses not to implement, like XHTML and CSS, while open-source software does.

Who said anything about Internet Explorer? That's what you're clearly bitching about. You know there are other, non-open-source browsers that are leaps and bounds ahead of IE, adhere to the accepted standards, and as a bonus don't leak memory like a rusty bucket.

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-15 7:40

PROTIP: use older utorrent

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-15 8:50

PROTIP: use a better client.

There are a lot of them out there.

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-15 13:16

lets say, i just posted this torrent on some website and i want to finish seeding it asap. so i give all upload speed to that torrent and cap other torrents that im downloading to a very low speed, does that mean i cant download?
because my download will be capped , my upload will be maxed out while my download will be capped at like 5kb/s

lol @ utorrent's stupidity

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-15 13:26

Name a few besides shitware like BitComet?

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-15 18:13

Jeeze, talk about the knee-jerk reactions.  utorrent only caps your global download if your global upload is under 6KB/s.  That's global upload people.

My ISP caps my bandwidth permanently if my upload goes over 10 for a long period of time. Fuck uTorrent. Fuck him in the ass. The appeal behind torrents is that they are unlegislated, open, and freely distributable. Signup websites and forced restrictions by clients completely undermine that whole theory. I will use my bandwidth as I choose to, this isn't Kazaa or LimeWire or DC++, there's no premium account or high-horse assfucker rules, this is fucking BitTorrent and I will be a leecher until the day I die.

You might try forwarding your ports, if you haven't done so yet, it's really easy. I did it, and I can't even compile a source code.
Go here to learn how:

BitSpirit for one.

But there's plenty of others too. So many I've long since lost track of them all.

You say this knowing that the internet was built in the late 60's using open standards, cute.

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-16 15:01

fail. This is so fucking wrong, the government does NOT agree with faggot open sores because of idiots who will claim "GPL! GPL!" and try to get source code for free. Also, the concept pf "open sores" wasn't even around in those days so stop trying to claim that too idiot.

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-16 15:33

The open-source model was derived from early open standards that came about as the internet was first created; look into RFC documents.

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-16 15:55

Not only that, but more than half the internet is currently run off of OSS machinery.

Mediocre troll

Dammit people, you didn't have to fall for it. Well, at least you didn't waste too much of your time.

Don't change these.
