I didn't 'like' Margot as a person a great deal, body building lesbians don't tend to have much effect on me either, but as far as the character goes she was interesting, especially in the events in the climax of Mason's story and in Barney's story. Barney and Margot were never any more than peripheral characters but they are very important to the story as a whole. Also when you see the film you'll lament how the Mason's end is more like an afterthought compared to in the book (there was actually a motive for it in the book).
I recommend Hannibal Rising too (nobody beets the Riz) it's a good book and although not as suspenseful as the other 2 it does a good job as a prequel.
