Fantasy books with lots of sex and violence.

Name: Anonymous 2007-07-08 17:41 ID:d2fqpSjc

I've been trying to get into fantasy novels lately, but I have to admit that I find most fantasy books to be pretty boring unless they have the aforementioned sex and/or violence. Can you recommend me some fantasy books that meet this requirement?

Pft, good luck finding a decent one. Most of the time female fantasy authors have sex in their books, but most female fantasy authors suck.

I haven't read them, but isn't this how the A Song of Fire and Ice books are?

The dragonlord series was written by a female... I do not believe the books suck, I have read well over 9000 books, and own more than 1000 personally.

YOU'VE READ OVER 9000?

Song of Fire and Ice books are a must. The books are adult in the sense that they treat sex and violence realisticly but it's not a gimmick or anything, some of the chapters are also pretty graphic, notably like Theon's first POV chapter and one of Tyrion's in Storm of Swords (which I'm only halfway through so there could be other stuff later)

I read at around 500 wpm on a good day. in some of the larger size, smaller print books, that means over 2 pages a minute. I was reading at college level when I WAS IN ELEMENTRY SCHOOL! I sometimes read dictonaries for fun.

Hey, if your thing is Poetry, it can be a nice place to get ideas. While I myself don't read that fast, I understand English better then most I've seen.

my girlfriend reads a lot of laurell k hamilton, constantly complaining that there's too much superfluous sex scenes but still keeps buying the new books as they come out.

SO MUCH RAPE

stephen donaldson's Chronicles of Thomas Covenant.

In the story, the main character has leprosy and he rapes a young girl at the beginning.  I can't remember what else happens but I remember it was somewhat violent and twisted.

Awesome! I'm so happy I bought that book now. Is the sex stuff done tactfully, though? I'm all for sex in my fantasy, but not if it's in that might as well be a trashy romance novel/Laurel K. Hamilton/Anne Bishop sort of way.

GRRM is a brilliant writer. The Song of Ice and Fire is the exact opposite of trashy romance. It is, bar none, the greatest fantasy series ever written, period. Nothing else even comes close.

Read some Conan stuff by R.E Howard.

Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen. Epic fantasy, mostly about war. It's difficult to start, but you get drawn in.

If I were you I would just ignore the 'fantasy' part and read Clockwork Orange.

The Cities of the Red Night by W. Borroughs, its fuckin amazing.

I thought some of the sex parts were unnecessary. Mostly about Dany.

The Sword of Truth series. In the first book alone our protagnist get's tortured through approximatey 50 pages. Later on the Imperial Order rapes and kills people by the thousands, AND it's described in minute detail.

Jesus you've got to be fucking kidding me.

You're not.

Martin's OK. He's not a fucking genius.

A Prince of Nothing by R. Scott Bakker, is a pretty good read in the fantasy genre with quite a bit of violence and sex.  It is his first trilogy, and is already in the works for a second series set in the same world.  For his first trilogy, it is well written and I expect much from the next set.  (It does have some pretty heavy dialog, with alot of philosophy in there.)

Plus it has characters you wish would die in a slow, exceptionally excruciating fashion. Seriously, there wasn't a single one I could even begin to sympathize with. Although it was finely written and the philosophy touch wasn't bad either.

If OPs enjoyment relies on likable characters, I'd advise only buying the first book for a start - or even stealing an ebook.

Ron sighed heavily. “I think you made the right choice,” he said. “It would be too dangerous for her to come with us. You’ll have a lot to make up to her when this is over, though.”

To say he was surprised was a massive understatement. Still, he steeled himself for what he was about to say. “I didn’t ask her to wait for me, Ron. We have no idea how long this is going to take, or if I’ll even be around when it’s finished.”
“Don’t talk like that, Harry,” Ron said fiercely. “Of course you will. And she’ll wait.”

Ron fell silent again, and this time it was Harry who waited for him to say more. Finally, realizing that Ron wasn’t going to add anything to that statement, Harry couldn’t contain his curiosity. He wished he could control that hope that flared within his heart, but he couldn’t. He didn’t even know how to begin to try.

Don't change these.
