I never really got into this show until recently. It's pretty fun, and certainly beats most of what's on Spike; so why isn't it more popular and/or respected?

I think it's because of MacGyver.

I think it's pretty popular. I mean, 8 freakin' seasons and currently filming the 9th season! (Plus the spin-off.) So, there's obviously a demand for SG stuff.

It's not really hated, people on forums seem to dislike anything from the Sci-fi channel. For good reason somethings Sci-fi can come out with some god awful crap, but things like SG-1 and farscape normaly get the love do to them.

I need a reason to actually watch it. What's the main draw?
I, uh, thought the movie was nifty. Um...

umm.. Decent special effects, acting, story and action scenes.
MacGyver?

Getting to hear "Jaffa, kree!" Not too many good Science fiction/Fantasy choices out there in (American) TV land right now. The FX are pretty good. And, yeah, MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson).
Farscape is the reason there's so much hate for Sci-Fi Channel. Or more specifically, because the assclowns cancelled Farscape. And sometimes Stargate gets blamed for that because it came to Sci-Fi just before Farscape was canned.
Regardless, Friday nights are basically the only time there's any reason to watch Sci-Fi, unless you want to see old SG-1 eps and don't have the DVDs.

Sci-fi fucking blows goats. They got rid of all their good shows (RIP Farscape) and it seems like all they ever have anymore are these really shitty made-for-tv movies. GATOR INVASION 2010 AD!!!

I wonder what ever happened to Sci-Fi doing the late night anime thing. I haven't watched more than a few minutes worth of TV in years, but I can't see why anyone would ditch late night anime. Oh well, sucks for them. Good for Adult Swim.

Look on g4 around 1 am for anime. but that dosent come close to the sci-fi channels anime. that was a shitty sentence.

Because the show is dull maybe?

No, it's actually fairly good. Most of the moaning and bitching comes from former star trek fans who don`t want to see another show usurp theirs.
Sci-Fi channel sucks for a lot, but both SG1 and SGA have been pretty good, especially this last season. Battlestar... eh, it could be better...
Tonight they're showing the network premiere of Man Thing.
"He who knows fear burns at the touch of the MAN THING!!!"

A lot of the more recent hatred comes from the fact that the last couple of seasons have been terrible. The show has outlived it's welcome, sadly.

No it hasn't. Not for the relatively large fanbase anyway, and certainly not for me. While it isn't as consistantly good as it once was, this doesn't chaange the fact that it doesn't occasionally shine. I thoroughly enjoyed most of season 8, although, admittedly season 7 was my least favourite.
I like SGA also, but haven't seen all that much of it yet.

I think its sci-fi's fault for showing the episodes repetively until they get all they want from it. I personally watched it until I saw the same shoe 5x.

When Bob Bowdner (the guy who played Crichton) came on to SG-1, I was like FUCK NO. Sci-Fi can't be SO desperate they need to recycle actors from other successful shows, can they?
Anyways, Battlestar Galactica > SG-1
Name:
Anonymous2005-07-30 5:09
Between both stargate shows, they have 2 people from Farscape, 2 from X-Files, and one from Andromeda. Recycle old sci-fi actors, you say?

SG-1 is stupid, but enjoyable. The plotline and concepts are all juvenile, but not cripplingly so.
SGA looks like it has more potential for failure, it is trying to be a slightly more sophisticated SG-1, but it is not succeeding.
BSG is trying to be 24 in space, it's trying to be adult and dark, and I can't say it's doing a completely shitty job of it.

Atlantis is unwatchable. The acting is at a sub-Power Rangers level. You will never see someone say they like the show because having a high enough IQ to communicate in English and liking SGAtlantis are mutually exclusive states.

i'll tell you why: the movie was good, and the TV show (and its fucking SPINOFF) aren't the same. it's like the two matrix sequels: they made a good thing look shitty because of its successors.
I always thought Stargate was gay and a crappy show but then I started to watch it about a year ago and I found I actually liked it. It isn't the best, but it is still fun to watch. The real upside was I hadn't seen most of the episodes so even though they show the reruns all the time most of them are new to me. So... now I wait for the rest of this season...

ive never understood SG Atlantis
watch the episode before i sleep i believe, Dr Weir going back in time because her expendition was killed when the city failed to rise, her and her ancient buddy decided to do a plan to rotate the ZPMs to conserve as much power as pos, now before he left he said hed block all address connecting to Atlantis besides earth didnt he? then how did they arrive and go to another world and get back... it kinda baffles me lol

SG-1 is a lot of fun to watch. SGA has a lot of potential, which I doubt will be exploited because most of the writers are extremely juvenile. Martin Gero and Brad Wright should do all the scripts. BSG is mind-blowing and doesn't even belong in the same discussion. :p

SG1 is okay, but it follows the same outline each time; team investigates something new, team gets in trouble, team goes to the brink of destruction, then *suddenly* HEY IT'S ALL COO.
Atlantis is just a vehicle to bring in more storylines to SG1, I doubt they`ll keep it going for much longer.

None of Atlantis storylines have tied with SG1S in any way, besides one or 2 episodes
I also think that Atlantis is doing better than SG-1.

I'm trying to remember the title of a movie I saw a few years back. I remember it was set in a post-apopcolyptic society with the main character being some elite unit in the government police force. One seen showed how he had been trained to fire weapons in the perfect way in all these different positions so as to kill more effectively. The government kept people on this gold colored medicine to keep them undercontrol, but the main character's son/daughter breaks a few of the containers and so he begins to realise what's going on. I think at one point, when he goes into the old part of the city, he finds a dog and puts it in his trunk to save it. Please help me put a title to this movie.

Everyone hates the SciFi Channel (the American one, that is), because it likes to cancel things. Just like Fox.
And, as for the Ori and the Priors- they just needed to get into their thing with them. After all, the snakeheads and the replicators needed time until they were Truly Awesome.
And besides, you tell me the battle at the end of season nine wasn't awesome, and I'll have to fine you one internet.
