Stargate SG-1, why is it so hated?

I never really got into this show until recently. It's pretty fun, and certainly beats most of what's on Spike; so why isn't it more popular and/or respected?

SG1 is okay, but it follows the same outline each time; team investigates something new, team gets in trouble, team goes to the brink of destruction, then *suddenly* HEY IT'S ALL COO. 

Atlantis is just a vehicle to bring in more storylines to SG1, I doubt they`ll keep it going for much longer.
