I want to get a <$100 MP3 player, like a Creative or Sandisk. But from looking at manuals, most of them only support up to 320kbps MP3s. A large amount of my mp3s are freeformat, with bitrates much higher than 320kbps.
They all work on my PSP, though, and that's a fairly low-end mp3 player. Does anyone know which mp3 players will support high bitrate mp3s? Am I just going to have to re-encode a ton of stuff?

Hmmmm...not quite sure.
MP4s work the best on the PSP yet I use regular Mp3s.
You might have to re-encode that, yes.

Man, you aren't going to be able to tell the difference between a 160kbps mp3 and something a lot higher on an mp3 player.
I'm assuming you want a player because you aren't fat lethargic tub of shit. In that case, you'd have a hard time telling ever 128 while moving around. I know I do.

I don't really fuss over the quality, but the majority of what I download is encoded at high bitrates, sometimes over 600kbps. I just want to find a player that can handle these, without having to re-encode, if possible.

Tough shit. Re-encode it.
Not only will you be saving space for more songs, but you won't sound like a retard for having stupidly high birate songs.
Bullshit. Time after time the guys at head-fi and hydrogenaudio have failed to tell LAME --aps from the CD source. Those guys have the right kit and the right ears, now gtfo.

Who gives a shit about quality? My time is to valuable to waste re-encoding and playing with shit. Do you recycle your dad's turds into ass-dildos, too? Either tell me which MP3 players support freeformat or STFU.

Could you elaborate on this a little. This is compatible with my interests.
