Do Euro countries not know how to check?

I haven't seen too many hockey games here but from what I have seen the Euros don't check NEARLY as much as the North American teams.


I mean if you watched US vs. Latvia we were dropping them to the floor every time they even tried to touch the puck. The whole time I was thinking why aren't the Latvians checking back?


Now I'm watching Sweden and Latvia and they play like the women. 0 checking. Its like we take a US football approach to the sport and the Euros take a soccer approach to it (less contact, faster pace).


Are euros little girls?

International hockey is naturally less physical than the NHL, bigger ice surface = less potential for contact. But there are a lot of Euro players who know how to hit...Forsberg, Ohlund, Ruutu, Ovechkin, Kasparaitis, etc.

Also, did you watch Italy vs Germany? It was fucking intense. But I guess you're right, as long as we're talking about countries where they can actually play it on a decent level.

I guess it's because just checking isn't really the best tactic if you want to win games (see how US, and to a lesser degree Canada, is getting pwned by everyone).

euro hockey is played on the big ice, and is run more on puck possession than body contact

it's a different game than the way canadians are bred to play (rest of the world can eat some ass poseurs).
