Yeah, I already tried to campaign for that a couple of months ago. Someone told me that 4chan was strapped for cash and wouldn't be able to afford new boards. That's also how I discovered this board!
Remember, this was months ago before that article came out saying moot was in the hole 20k so I'm pretty sure whoever said that was in the know.
Oh yeah, and 420chan can suck it. They're nothing but a bunch of pseudo-intellect faggots that want to learn how to make drugs and solve world problems inebriated.

Maybe 4chan would get more ads if they use different ADs for each board.
People interested in science stuff need to post in /g/an/an/ sometimes /k/ and /ck/
Medical stuff would be nice too since House made it cool.
Maybe a /st/ Science and Technology
Also, would be nice to have a Nerdcore board in 4chan

We have /g/, but they're infested with trolls like the rest of 4chan.
As for money? I dunno, get rid of /toy/ or something

I like the idea.
I see two ways to make it happen. First: Earn it by posting lots of positive original content here, and making some money for Moot by clicking on the advertisers. We could even set up a window of time so it would be clear that we were the reason for the change in stats. But that's not really gonna help much in the long run. I think one of the greatest untapped sources of advertising revenue for this community might be universities. Lot's of students here, and I wonder if the folks working in University PR/Advertising departments are even aware of the growing subculture. Go to them as an advocate and apologist, and present them with this important advertising opportunity.
Second, and in the mean, we might consider usurping another board. We can choose other times and places to get together and have image posting evenings. This is, of course, against the rules, but you've gotta try, right? I would suggest usurping those superstitious silly /x/ers. paranormal my ass...
>>7
Maybe we could make a Science Sunday or a Science Saturday?
They could use banners of websites like thinkgeek for boards like /g/an/toy/ and in the /sc/ (science) /st/ (Science and Technology)
A Science board would get parto of /g/ board, part of /x/ board, part of /an/ and part of /rk9/ I doubt that it will be the slowest board after one or two months;

In all honesty, I don't want a /sci/ imageboard on the mainland until I know for sure we have a couple of mods and janitors to rid of the underage b&s asking us to do their pre-algebra shit.

I still don't understand why moot doesn't do a fund raising day. With his user base he would pay off his debt and make enough money to buy that doll with the whole in its mouth.
>>19
Funny thing is, he said there would be another donation drive after DONATE OR DIE 2005. And here we are nearly four years later and he never announced it. After DONATE OR DIE, he was able to raise at least $11,000 dollars (for new servers) and his target was $20,000. I don't see why there can't be a DONATE OR DIE 2009.
I mean, setup up some kind of mailing address to send donations (since using Paypal won't work, content on 4chan is too risqué for payment processors like Paypal.) I would gladly send in donation money via money order.

Funny that this thread is on here, though. Months back I was considering e-mailing moot about a robotics board (people on /mech/ can talk about real robots a bit but the threads are rare). I'm sure that all that OP has included in the idea would make up a board that wouldn't get old quickly, there's plenty to contribute and discuss.

Yeah, there is a lot of serius science for us (robotics, nanotech, geology, medicine, etc) and not so serious but cool science for the masses (mithbusters, steampunk, gadgets, etc)
Ah man this is fun. So if this carries on long enough and we get more posters, what do we do then? Is someone going to make a seperate chan or are we going to use the trial board to try to convince moot it'd be a good idea? Or will we just carry on using the trial board?

To convince moot is the best for lazy people like me.
But in a separeted chan we could make more boards (like a humanities board, a scifi board, etc)
Also I don't really know a lot about web design, I made this board there because it's easier than a mail account.
If you have the skills and money to make a new board we could make it together, and we could look for geek/steampunk/cyberpunk gadgets as sponsors.

Skills no, money no. I don't do web design, and though I have one friend who does he won't do shit for me (in University), but I could at least try to talk him into it seeing as he's into robotics and general electronic technology and scientific advancement.
If anyone can step up to the plate with the money and some skills or a willing friend that has them, that'd be fantastic though.
So yeah...
In all probability it's convincing moot. But a seperate chan would be cool, I like the idea of a sci-fi board - but are we talking semi-realistic sci-fi or is Douglas Adam's stuff also allowed?

here again. :P Trying to respond to you on the steampunk thread but it's not allowing .pngs or .jpgs lol.

just go and post on /g/...
they share the /sci/ interest

No, it's like trying to post robotics in mecha. Works sometimes but for a long term, broad discussion and multiple threads, it won't work (either be saged or bumped off while people are drooling over anime characters)

Yeah, it's a bug, it allows .jpg but not .JPG
I will ask them for a fix

It's situations like this that make me wish web design and programming wasn't so goddamn boring.

I'm thinking in separate the board in different boards.
/science/ for science
/humanities/ for literature, history, philosophy, etc.
/geek/ for gadgets, steampunk, cyberpunk and not serious stuff
/otaku/ for japanese culture nerds
If the board continue growing I will see if I can use of ADs (just like 4chan) and get a domain...

I didn't read this thread all the way through, so excuse me if I'm repeating what other people have said:
Since we already have a science text-board, a science image-board would be superfluous. A board where we simply show only science related pictures? We might as well just start and maintain science threads on /b/ and /g/.
Now, another text-board based on Philosophy & Spirituality would be nice. I'm positive there are whole bunch of us that have the philosophical itch-- even if most of us are pseudo-intellectuals or dilettantes. And again, a Philosophy & spirituality IMAGE-board would be as unecessary as a science one.
Shut the fuck up faggot. /sci/ deserves an imageboard just as much as any other subject. You know know those pictures from the hubble, or close ups of atoms that you look at to feel smart and amazed? Yeah bitch, science.
Okay, I'm much more open to the idea now. The makeshift science board linked on >>29 convinced me.
So maybe I jumped the gun on this one, because I would definitely be a regular on such a board.
However, not every subject is a workable imageboard theme. Even with all the science related pictures, conversation and debate would end up being the major focus-- so it's more suited as textboard, imo.
Regardless, I still approve of the idea.

/r9k/ already contains threads about science (granted if you can bear to swim past the void of endless relationship threads). So making a /sci/ imageboard here may be a bit pointless.

Half of 4chan boards are pointless them.
Why have /a/ and /c/ if we have /jp/?
There are some animal threads in /b/, so we don't need /an/
We have /n/, so we don't need /o/
We have photos in almost every board, so we don't need /p/
We have heath threads in /ck/ so we don't need /fit/
.
.
.
Continues until we end with just /b/
>>56
Hmmm... good point. What I also have noticed is we have /g/, and two "/g/-based" (if you will) textboards here on World4ch: /comp/ - Computers and /tech/ - Technology.
moot appeared in /b/ on the morning of March 19th (UTC-5) and I asked him a question and surprisingly among the huge amount of responses he replied. I asked him "Hey moot, are you considering adding new boards to 4chan?". His response was ".....yes?". Hinting at the possibility of new board additions.
So you can suggest to him the creation of a /sci/ - Science imageboard, by e-mailing him (moot@4chan.org). Though, there's plenty of imageboard sites out there that already have a board dedicated to Science.
>>59
That was the name that these boards were under when they were hosted on a separate domain (originally http://www.world4ch.org). Some people still refer to the textboards by this name even though it's been like, what? Two or three years now since they were merged into the main 4chan site.

Oh also to add, the name "Word4ch" was taken after World2ch, because World2ch which was a site administered by some Japanese kid was an early attempt at (even before 4chan was founded) recreating 2channel (www.2ch.net) in English and other languages. That site collapsed, and Shii and a few other former users of World2ch tired to make a new site that would be a continuation of that, so then World4ch was born.
>>57
Yeah.
I liked 3.14chan, you don't see many imageboards where you can post math equations and youtube videos...
Also trolls level are still very low there, but I don't know if this would keep this way if it became more popular.

There's a thread on 4chan right now of people's sugggestions for boards. One of those suggestions was /sci/ - a scientific imageboard.
Then someone mentioned that this text board existed.
That's why I'm here.
Because I'm just a humanitiesfag, and your complexity dazzles me.
