The Goal of science?

Name: UniKix !2m3gmkw9Wc 2005-12-16 13:14

I think science is racing towards transcendentalism, but it's grasping for a near impossible goal. Transcendentalism is the loss of species identity itself, so why would we wish to achive this? We aim to weave ourselves into the very fabric from which we are created, which doesn't seem very reasonable. not only that, but transcendentalism may even be the state of nothingness. just some thoughts

Science aims to kill God.

meybe, maybe not.  science, in my mind, is the attempt to understand the universe.  engineering, in my mind, is the application of science to a practical end: since we are all animals, we have at least two core goals; to survive and to reproduce.  virtually all inventions made to date are designed to aid this in some manner.

We are sentient now, not animals. People are willing risk their lives for other purposes.

God is entirely irrelevant.

Please share whatever you are hitting because it sounds like it's some good shit.  Seriously, I just study science so I know how my microwave works when combined with dry non-dairy creamer.

What's so special about species identity? Why would we want to keep it, especially in the face of the alternatives?

The goal of both Science and SCIIIIEEEEEENNNNNCNCCCCCE is of course to have the most fun. Knowledge is power, and power is fun. Knowledge may even be fun in an on itself. And then you always have "because I can".

Just thought I'd add that science, in its purest form, is the rape of nature. (However, I really haven't developed an opinion on this issue yet.)

Science has no goals. People do. Science is a tool, like a dildo. Now go use it to fuck Religion.
