is there a way to make a virtual CPU that is faster than the CPU it runs on, or otherwise speed up indefinitely? what i want to be able to do is bruteforce huge search spaces in seconds.
inb4 there is no way. I know there is a way. I know a way can be made. i know a way will be made.

Define "fast". If you're willing to trade universality for speed, take a look at the Hashlife algorithm, but generally, no.

Wait, welp that was retarded. Just ignore everything but the last word.

But, Hashlife doesn't speed up anything, it just caches patterns. All modern CPUs already have an instruction cache.
What I meant was some ideas like this:
-an algorithm that could, for example, automatically optimize code at the sub-instruction level (combining instructions to promote better/faster instructions)
-use some sort of superposition prediction that would cause a set of random instructions to inevitably converge to a fixed point, i.e. algorithm that predicts itself
-neural nets that attempt to predict other, larger, neural nets, gradually making a smaller and smaller neural net (probably won't work due to computational irreducibility)
-using light instead of electricity (probably a silly idea and hard to implement but worth mentioning)
I know this is an autistic fantasy like FrozenVoid's infinite compression but I cannot help but think about this all day. Actually I've thought for years about virtual speed-up now.

Also, someone with more knowledge on this subject explain this PDF in a nut's hell? Seems they have already invented the Zeno oracle, but I don't understand anything.. the symbolic logic language is too complex, so someone explain for an idiot NEET how exactly does one implement a scale invariant CA; is it enough to have parts of the cells behave the same way as the parent cells except twice as fast and small, or what?
>>7
It assumes space to be continuous, and that quantum effects and gravity will not interfere, to make the lattices arbitrarily small. The rest is kind of like their right-accelerated TM: it differs from a Zeno machine because you have control over the acceleration. It's more ``plausible'' than the Zeno machine, but it's still wishful thinking and mathematical wanking. We don't even know whether spacetime is continuous or discrete, let alone leveraging the continuity, else we would've build a real computer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_computation) ages ago.

In short, we are primitive apes stuck on the surface of a blue rock, forever forced to throw shit at each other because there's nothing else we can do?
Reminds me of the frozen vomit's infinite compressor

This is different because there's a theoretical limit on how much you can compress, but not for speed. Or is there? If there is, I'd be grateful to have an explanation.
And don't say the speed of light is the limit, because you don't need to be faster than light to predict something algorithmically. Man invented multiplication to predict iterated addition, exponentials to predict iterated multiplication and tetrationals to predict iterated exponentials. There's nothing that says man won't find a meta-algorithm for evolution itself. If you say things like heat or entropy become a problem, man could find an algorithm for optimizing the heat and entropy of a system.
That other guy claims space is not continuous, which a quite outrageous claim because space is connected to time, space can change and so can time. No one really understands how it works, so it is way too early to assume something won't work just because it sounds silly. The correct way is to try it, and when it fails, find the source of the problem and destroy it.
If the facts don't fit the theory, change the facts. -Albert Einstein
No one really understands how it works,
This is a quite outrageous claim, because you either don't know that or are lying.

Than are dreamt of in your philosophy. -William Shakespeare

If it exists but I can't see it, to me it is the same as it not existing. Call me egotistical, but that's the only way I can perceive the world. The objective world itself gave me nothing but subjective perception, so who am I to defy it?

I just invented a gasoline engine that emits a vapor which can be condensed and shoved up an anus, then inhaled for full effect. The resulting surge of energy is greater than that contained in the original input to the engine.
Shitcocks. That's what we are. No, that's what YOU are. You fucking shitcock. I don't even know what. Your mother plays baseball in Hell. I don't even know. My throat is so clogged from all the penises I gargle on that all the cum has grown to be part of my throat. I have no throat. I don't know and neither do you. I do what I must because I can. You do what you can because you must. I want to place a single hairball on my tongue and eliminate it locally. I want to disgust the old fart of man. I will take care of the events that follow the later evening. We should. I have no choice but to place a cucumber in my anus. Sorry. I should have developed a mesmerizing telepathy. No wonder yu caused so much void warranties in the seal club. My nose is running out of snot. Please take care.
Later, this evening, our negligible brains will suffer a phase shift. Stay tuned.. or don't, and we will tune you for you.

You defined chaos. Chaos is not random. Chaos is not organized. Chaos is not logical, but not illogical either. Chaos does not attempt to prove a point; you do. Chaos does not need proof to exist. You create chaos. Like all of us, you needed an enemy so you could have something to be good or bad relative to. “Chaos as an antithesis is not complete and utter chaos , but a locally determined concept relating to the concept of the cosmos. Utter chaos can never be put on a scale, but will remain forever unweighable and unmeasurable. It can be Nothing or a dormant Something, death or birth, according to dominance of will or lack of will, of willing or not willing. The pictorial symbol for this ‘non-concept’ is the point that is really not a point, the mathematical point. The nowhere-existent something or the something-existent nothing is a non-conceptual concept of freedom from opposition. If we express it in terms of the perceptible (as though drawing up a balance sheet of chaos), we arrive at the concept grey, at the fateful point between coming-into-being and passing-away; the grey point. The point is grey because it is neither white nor black because it is white and black at the same time. It is grey because it is neither up nor down or because it is both up and down. It is grey because it is neither hot nor cold; it is grey because it is a non-dimensional point, a point between dimensions.”

Indeed. How does it feel to be dominated by pure math and logic? How does it feel to be dominated by yourself?
