I was planning on asking this question, and then I was even more motivated when I saw all this /prog/ is dead shit.
I'm a CS major, and work with a lot of fairly talented people. I come here, and there are many talented, however in addition there are many brilliant people.
Why don't you guys write your own forum? I hate the text boards, they are shitty and not very functional. You guys could write an amazing forum, take care of spam easily, and do it all with such elegance. I learned some webdev stuff back in highschool, and even back then I was writing forums and such much better than this.
Why don't you autistic fucks orchestrate this. I've been wanting a community outside of my CS department, something where there could be projects.

I've never written a line of java in my life. I learned a ton of scripting languages in highschool, and in college all I've done are as follows: Ada95(Check this out), Scheme, Racket, C++
The imageboards aren't much better. All I'm saying is that we could write something amazing. Most of you don't realize it, but the collection of minds here is unique. I know about 3 people in my CS department that would fit in here, and there are many more here.
The textboards suck, if I wasn't drunk I'd make a nice long list saying why.
The fact that spam like this can get through says a lot...
As soon as I have some free time, I would definitely consider this. I suck balls at HTML/CSS though, however I'm great with security and decent with php(I'm assuming php would be our SSL?). If it's shit, then ignore it, I wouldn't expect anything else.
Now that I think of it, probably not too many web developers here.
The furthest this board has ever gotten to improving its own functionality is developing and never implementing an "enhanced" version of BBCode that Xarn described with explicit detail on his blog.
Of course, I'm going to have to give you credit for coming to the community itself with your proposal rather than presenting it to the VacBob himself.

We lovehatelohatevehate Shitchan.
Also, there are sereval problems, like:
- Which language? As /prog/riders, we would choose Scheme or Haskell, but
- Host it, where? As /prog/riders, we don't really want to spill money for an even shittier board than /prog/.
- How to bring the /prog/riders to the new /prog/? And most important...
- Who should take responsability? Someone MUST break his anonimity to be reachable for moderation. /prog/ is different
from other programming forums because of the anonimity. Christopher made /sicp/ years ago, and Xarn is known to be
half-assedly working on a programming-only board/forum/whatever.

That would be another forum... among millions. The whole point of posting here is to share the bandwidth with pedophiles and weeaboos, which is so cool and so badass.

>>9 /prog/riders of lore have already done so. REchan. Unfortunately, it's all but dead.
>>9 Most of you don't realize it, but the collection of minds here is unique.
You're overestimating the average /prog/lodyte's programming abilities. Maybe once it could have been true, I don't really think so anymore.

I will agree that there are many idiots that stumble upon this board, maybe even the majority. The thing is, there only needs to be a few people to do it. There doesn't really even need to be, as I'm convinced I could write something better, especially if I had a designer.
>>17
Writing something better than Shitchan is not that difficult, since it's one of the worse piece of software I've ever seen, it would take an day or two at worse. It's something more psychological. And >>13,
I myself kind of like how the bugs get exploited to, e.g., multi-line quote, but it may just be the stockholm syndrome that kicks in.
You need 3 things;
1. Free forum which is stable and can be relied on like /prog/(see threads from 2005?? thats reliable)
2. It needs very lax moderation like /prog/
3. And last it should allow free anonymous posting without captchas.
>>21
I agree, and 2. It needs very lax moderation like /prog/
/prog/ has no moderation right now. Slightly more would be much better (like, remove the continuous black hitler shit, etc.)

(Said Pokey while being licked by Tux. His yelps for help were not answered, as the Linux convention hall was deserted and empty. The monitors were a dull grey color disguised by falling dust and crumbs.
Melancholic zelda music was streaming from a unplugged WC nearby. The shadows from streetlights and passing carts played games with mind, feeling surreal with fluorescent blue glow of lights falling on portrait of Richard Matthew Stalin, giving him the nonchalant smirk. But all was not lost:
Mat Dickie, the revolutionary game designer has entered the building or lair of villains as he preferred to describe Linux user groups.
Pokey, filled with saliva and contemplating suicide was enraptured by Mat Dickies charm, and his brutal, man-on-the-street approach to user-friendly design. He watched in delight as Mat Dickie beat Tux into submission with environmentally friendly keyboards, forcing the dramatic reversal of fate within a single heroic act. Pokey felt indebted to Mat Dickie and his immense gaming skills which saved his life and sanity, so he proposed to him on the sport and they lived together happily ever after. The End.)

Actually, I heard it a long time ago on /a/. I think people don't understand what autism is. They just think with their monkey brains "zomg he is ``alone and withdrawn into himself all the time'', therefore he is ``autistic''." Loneliness is not autism. Social awkwardness is not autism. Megalomania is not autism. Probably more than 90% of people on the internet who are "self-diagnosed" with autism are fooling themselves.
Autism is a mental condition. I'm not implying it's necessarily bad. Some types of autism have *might* have some benefits (and they have their drawbacks). But the thing is that they are specific mental conditions and people misuse their names all the time.
... which says a lot about the average intelligence level on these boards.
It's assburgers that is the is the self-diagnosed condition of choice on the Internet. I believe that if you think you have a mental condition like autism, you're too self-aware of it to actually have it (if that makes sense); yet if you actually do have it and are aware of the fact, you're not going to go announcing it as a defense tactic or even at any time outside of a mental breakdown.
Blah blah blah I'm rambling poop
Are there really any autistic people here? When I was in 5th grade they tried to diagnose me with ausburger's, but I think it was just because I would get my ass kicked after school so I didn't want to go(I was 2 years younger than everyone else, so most kids were bigger than me).
Now I'm 20 and am thinking I don't have anything like it because I've never had trouble making friends/girlfriends
What's wrong with text boards? I fucking love the ultimately simplistic approach to group communication and collaboration. It's so great not to be annoyed by fucking advertisements or buzzers and shit everywhere, Especially since I still use a god damn text based browser GET UR EMBEDDED CONTENT THE FUCK OUT
