The Mythical Man Month

I am reading The Mythical Man Month. It's pretty good and I will probably apply it to my work as a programmer with respect to planning projects, coping with deadlines and teamwork, etc.. Who's read it? Tell me your tales of books that have helped you with the logistical aspects of working as a programmer.

logistics is for faggots. real hackers just sit down in a dark room and code till its done. get a fridge full of soda and beer and a good local pizza delivery company.

I know my memory budgeting has drastically improved since I read TMMM. But yeah, it does deserve a lot of the credit it gets.
I've heard good things about  <<Code Complete>>, but I wouldn't go as far as to recommend it, not having read it myself. And it's published by Microsoft, which really are the last people I'd go to to learn anything about software development.

I'm about half way through CC, and so far lots of it is just common sense advice like "Don't make shit so complex you don't understand it."

This may surprise you, but that advice needs to be followed more often.

>Don't make shit so complex you don't understand it.
I wish the early developers of our banking system had taken this consideration into account. Now it's an horrible code mess with a lot of components noone is able to comprehend.

I think the problem is less that no one understands them and more that they make no sense.

if only microsoft would have realized this sooner instead of waiting until they were working on windows 7...

Don't change these.
