i'm sorry, friend, you seem to be mistaking me for something i am not. my google results for ``W-D" only give me results relating to the Western Digital brand of hard drives and Merriam Webster. however, ``[u]W-D c++[/i]" returns a result regarding the book ``C By Discovery" by [b]w.d. foster[b].

friends, i absolutely must apologize for my lack of mastery over the bbcode i attempt to wield. i've been feeling a little sick lately, my basement is too cold.

I can't appreciate these masterfully crafted posts when you don't begin your sentences with a capital letter, and that makes me sad.

Seriously man, can i have some help? I'll even use capital letters, as much as I dislike the SHIFT key.

Alright guys, I made a run to Barnes and Noble and got ``Beginning C++ Through Game Programming Second Edition" by Michael Dawson. Is this a good resource? Y/N?

Ah, greetings, greetings, and salutations. I beg your forgiveness. My tardiness was unavoidable.

Thanks for telling me, but do you know how good is the book I chose? Any other resources are more than welcome.

If you're serious, you could just read Bjarne's book[1], or you could pick a better language!

______________

[1] - The C++ Programming Language by Bjarne Stroustrup

I recommend ``Sams Teach yourself C++ in 24 hours''

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-10 21:16

i once tried reading Bjarne's book.
that guy really knows how to pad things out.
i stopped reading because the first 50 pages seemed to be nothing but the "philosophy" of sepples and OOP.

The problem with that book is that it's designed like C++ itself. big, complicated, and not particularly lucid. However, once you've learned C++ fairly well (and being able to write working programs in it doesn't necessarily count) you'll probably also be able to navigate Bjarne's book. It makes a good reference for competent programmers who are occasionally called upon to descend to writing C++ code.

I recommend not learning C++.

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-10 22:38

What would you recommend then?

Javascript

You should learn D.

From my understanding, Javascript is not a real programming language. I would like to learn something useful, nothing functional though.

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-10 23:05

How about a truly multi-paradigm language?

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-10 23:55

HAVE YOU READ YOUR SICP TODAY?

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-11 7:16

I suggest you learn C instead and then try C++ again. Pick up K&R2

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-11 7:42

"A, K, 'n R" sounds better, IMO.

but, yeah, HAVE YOU READ YOUR SICP TODAY?

To learn C++, you must first learn C++?

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-11 9:09

>>28
To learn C++, you must first unlearn C.

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-11 18:47

>>29
I disagree.

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-11 18:55

>>28
No, he was saying to read Bjourne's book you must already know C++.

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-11 19:09

At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.
