Not a troll

Name: Hipster Faggot 2009-06-28 23:47

you guys are probably going to think this is a troll, but whatever.
I'm a complete programming virgin, and I want to pick it up.
I have (sigh) an iMac and a Macbook, both with Ubuntu running on a partition (gifts from my parents, I swear I'm not that bad on my own).  Which language should I start with, and are there any easy sites or guides that'll help me learn the ropes?

As a fellow Macfag, I suggest you look up some Ruby and Python tutorials. Both are already built into OS X.

People will reply to this thread telling you to pick one or the other, but they're retards. Make that decision yourself.

The diving meme is not simply "0/10." You have to qualify the number. Like this:

>>1
0/10 kill yourself.

You are indeed a hipster faggot if you waste such nice machines on Ubanto.

Why the fuck would you run Ubuntu on a Mac? Are you some kind of retard that is unable to figure out how to open a terminal on OS X?

Most macfags use Ruby if you must ask

This thread is /g/ quality

Don't worry, OP.
This isn't /g/. You are welcome here, macfriend :-)
/prog/ is a very kind and helpful place.

Name: Anonymous 2009-06-29 4:35

You can get gcc for the mac and read k&r.

Name: Anonymous 2009-06-29 4:52

OP here. But I think that K&R costs more susscoins than I can afford.

Start with a simple scripting language like Python.  Look at other people's code, try to modify it to do something a little different, then add a new feature or two.  Then write something of your own.  Voilà, your a programmer.

I assure you that even as I typed my humorously exaggerated reply, my face remained in the well-known arrangement that people come traveling from afar to bask in the tranquility of.

Voila` un paio di balle! (Italian words for "that's not so simple"). Becoming a Programmer requires the most profound commitment and astute mind, not just reading some code.

I installed Windows on it so I would be able to run Photoshop for my corporate graphic design job

Oh wait

Why in the world would you need to install Windows to use Photoshop? There's a version of Photoshop for OS X.
