Hello [spoierl]prog[/spoiler],

I want to begin coding. The way I see it there's two ways:

1. Traditional method.

HTML--->Java Script--->C/C++--->Python, Perl--->Haskel, Seppels, LISP

2.[spoierl]prog[/spoiler] method.

Read SICP

I want to know how the hell you can know all languages just from SICP.

When you achieve satori you enter a mind meld with all others who have reach satori and have access to their knowledge as if it were your own.

Just stop at HTML. It's touring complete, so you don't need anything else.

You're clueless.

Name: Anonymous 2009-05-26 9:38

Your wrong. The traditional method is of course:

QBASIC -> x86 assembler -> C -> C++ -> Java Enterprise Edition

php is very easy

Name: Anonymous 2009-05-26 11:33

php has problems

He saw it

Name: Anonymous 2009-05-26 14:02

no serious answers? c'mon prog

Name: Anonymous 2009-05-26 14:39

Apparently, the traditional method is now
1) Learn Python or Ruby
2) GOTO next_fad

If you weren't codingprogramming by the time you were 15, don't bother.

;_;

But I learnt some HTML and started Javascript!

If you weren't programming by the time you were 5, don't bother.

This is too harsh, it's like saying ``If you aren't the Sussman, don't bother''.  15-17 is fair enough for an average value.  Some hackers started messing with computers at the age of 20 or even later.

learn BBCode first faggot .

Name: Anonymous 2009-05-27 6:20

no true hackers need to start young. the brain needs to be washed into the hacker state of mind there and then

Faggot

Go back to /b/, please

Name: Anonymous 2009-05-27 9:38

I was 10 when I started, am I no hacker?

Name: Anonymous 2009-05-27 11:06

At first I wanted to say
So you're saying that if I were programming at the age of 15, that makes me the Sussman?
(I know that's not what you meant, but it made me a little happier inside :))

But then I realized you're replying to >>18 and I was like :(

Name: Anonymous 2009-05-27 11:28

>>25
I'm sorry about that, I didn't mean to upset you.
How about a sweet hug? *^_^*

Lol see you guys, this is why we have stereotypes. The fact of the matter is, stereotypes that are true ARE THE ONES THAT STICK. A lisp running out of memory on a fucking CRAY 9000 well I haven't heard THAT ONE before...

You know that if I tried to make a stereotype of ruby on rails being REALLY efficient, yeah it would NEVER stick.

If I tried to make a stereotype of C programmers writing working code, it would NEVER stick.

If I tried to make a stereotype of Scala being anything but an academic WANKFEST, again yes IT WOULD NEVER STICK.

All these fucking pussies run around looking for a chance to say "no that's lispist! stereotypes are wrong!" Well I say to you FUCK YOU. The reason stereotypes exist is that THEY ARE TRUE. No fucking stereotype that wasn't true has EVER stuck around.

And of course this nigger is leaving a little halfbreed niglet on this bitch and running out on her, she should have been smart enough to know that this is why we have stereotypes, because this is what niggers do.

Name: Anonymous 2009-05-27 11:31

err, CORRECTION

And of course this lisper is leaving a garbage collector on overnight with this bitch and running out on her, she should have been smart enough to know that this is why we have stack frames instead of lambda and cons, because this is what real programmers do.

Why are you talking with yourself.

Dear /prog/,

If I learned BASIC on a Commodore 64 when I was 6 but then didn't touch computers again until I was 20 and didn't get back into programming until i was 22, am I screwed?

Signed,

If I learned BASIC [..] , am I screwed?
Yes.  Invariantly.

Name: Anonymous 2009-05-27 20:22

>>32
What about his invariants?

Don't change these.
