Netbeans java output to xterm

Name: Anonymous 2008-06-02 12:00

Dear /prog/,

as i have already read my sicp today, would somebody be so kind to enlighten me how i can display the console output of a NetBeans java project in a terminal, e.g. xterm.

I can't stand the NetBeans output window anymore.

Uh, well i would like to have it automatically pop up an xterm every time i run the program, but thanks for trying

Some people, when confronted with a problem, think ``I know, I'll use an ENTERPRISE QUALITY programming language and an equally shitty IDE.''
Now they have a lot of problems.

Is there any fucking reason you aren't using vim and javac/java in two xterm windows other than flaming homosexuality?

Are you serious? Tell your faggot of an employer that the one who chooses the tools should be the one who's going to work with them.

If that doesn't work, tell him about your own more cost-effective, scalable, next generation turnkey solutions.

If you have the ability to customize NetBeans to launch xterm, why don't you just launch xterm?

Java is so badly designed that it's only barely bearable with a stupidly bloated IDE like Eclipse. Fuck if I'm going to remember and/or type all that HomosexualSexImpl xarn = new HomosexualSexImpl(FaggotryFactory.getFaggotryInstance().getAnus()); and remember all the idiotic exceptions Java enjoys throwing around, even for the most simple crap.

I like Java, I think it has a few flaws but it's pretty well designed overall. Not sure what you're trying to do here that throws so many exceptions... Maybe file input/output? I admit that is a weak point in the standard APIs. Well, good luck :)

Ah, there's your problem. You fucking suck at Java and think that's the language's fault.

(Incidentally, vim can do dictionary-based auto-completion of words, and if you have one xterm open to code and another to compile and run, that leaves most of half of your screen free for another one with the documentation for the libraries you're using.)

What sort of programmer uses a tiny-ass screen like that, where 2 windows take up half?

What sort of programmer uses huge-ass fonts?  You haven't spent real Programmer TimeTM in front of your display to condition your eyes yet.

Name: Anonymous 2008-06-03 15:10

Real programmers don't need tiny fonts because their programs are properly abstracted (don't need to see guts halfway across the program) and their language is so powerful that any function fits easily on the screen.

Absolutely.  It is a true seed of life which self-assembles into a beautiful, living, self-replicating, self-healing body.  Except this one is better documented and more maintainable than the meatspace counterpart.
