Vim is fast to edit in. Much faster than emacs, but when I'm programming I don't really need speed there. I need power related to diffs and patches, vim lacks that.
I still like vim.

MAN! The . command sure is powerful! I never have to repeat an action, I laugh at the Emacs (and worse) users that have to actually press more than one key to do anything.

/prog/ was probably at its best in 2007/2008, but it's always alternated between alright and very shit periods. We recently had an alright period, and now we're at the height of a shit one, as the 150 necroposts attest. I expect we'll enter an alright one again soon.
