So you enjoy being duped? To each their own, I guess...

"Global Warming / Global Climate Change" is alarmist propaganda being pushed by statist politicians with an eye towards bringing about global socialism. The leftist media reports (really, parrots) this propaganda uncritically. This, despite the fact that the computer models these dire, end-of-the-world projections are based upon have been completely discredited (garbage in, garbage out).

The people who believe in it, believe in it like a religious cult. There is no evidence you can show them that will make them change their belief system.

To the GW believer, warming is evidence of GW, but so is cooling. Floods are evidence of GW, but so are droughts.

If it fails to get warmer, then "natural factors" are merely "masking" the human-caused warming.

It's not falsifiable to these devout believers, so therefore it's not a scientific theory; instead, it's merely a quasi-religious belief.

Enjoy being a sheep. Orwell was right about human nature, and just how easily manipulated the masses are, I'm afraid...

True, but it's more a case of them blowing it out of proportion.

Of course, it takes a long time. The earlier we prepare for it the better, we just have to get rid of the socialists in order for it to work properly.

The grand sum total goes up, but the spread is more uneven.
Keyword: Gulf Stream.

One point that ppl seem to go out of their way to miss:
Sustainable energy is sustainable. There is a finite amount of oil; when that's spent, it's spent. Same with coal.

There is more coal on Earth than oil, though, by at least a couple of orders of magnitude.

North America is basically one gigantic lump of coal covered with a thin layer of soft sandstone.  Saudi Arabia has nothing on us.  All that is lacking is the will to confront the greenshirt environazis and go for a coal-to-gasoline via Fischer-Tropsch Process basis for our fuel economy.

But then we wouldn't be giving trillions of dollars to sandnigger fanatics who want to exterminate us, and we just can't have that.

the problem is more about the fact that nobody gives a shit about the enviornment, and those that do don't put action into their words, and most treehuggers throw away just as much trash as i do.

Environmental change is a perfectly natural process, something environmentalists don't seem to get through their thick fucking skulls.  Global warming, if it exists at all, will just result in everyone needing to smarten the fuck up and learn how to adapt like the rest of the natural world.

When the gigantic meteor was hurtling towards the Earth, did the dinosaurs boycott it?  Did they tie themselves to trees to protest it's arrival?  Did they petition their local legislative assembly to enact regulations against it?

NO!  THEY SAT THERE AND FUCKING DIED, LIKE PRETTY MUCH EVERY OTHER SPECIES OUT THERE!  AND LET A MORE ADAPTABLE SPECIES TAKE THEIR PLACE!

Environmentalists can learn a lot from them.

So are you saying that not only is there nothing we can do about climate change, and that due to that fact, we should just let it happen and let it wipe us all out?

>>11
Sure there's tons of coal. Have you seen what China's air looks like recently? Yeah, have fun with your coal, sir.

There are a few kinds of climate change. The non-human affected, natural climate change you're referring to is called Icehouse and occurs over the coarse of 450 million year cycles. The ice ages caused by Icehouse periods are called Interglacial and those are the bigger ones. Greenhouse is the human-affected climate change and is supposed to occur over the coarse of 100,000 years, and causes mini-ice ages. However, with our increased dumping of carbon dioxide into the air (normal only caused by volcanoes erupting), plans, animals, and the ocean are not able to catch up in the storing of carbon dioxide. We are exponentially increasing the 100,000 year cycle.

I wish I knew if people really are as ignorant as they appear on the internet, or if everyone is just fucking with everyone else to get a rise out of them. I really hope it's just the latter, and that no one is really that stupid.

Adapt or die -- that's how the environment works, that's how the environment's worked for billions of years.  The sooner you get that fact straight, the sooner you can stop shoving your tree hugging agenda down my throat.

Consciously trying to revert the environment back to what it was some hundreds of years ago, that's unnatural.  It's not even like it's getting too hot for us to survive or anything, it's mostly the weird little niche biospheres that are getting affected to the point of extinction.  And noone really cares about them.

Why not just return the earth to a tropical hothouse like it was during the age of the dinosaurs?  Don't dinosaurs deserve a second chance too?

Just because you don't like your life doesn't mean that everyone else has to deal with your shit. We can keep going the way we are going with a few minor adjustments and everything will be fine. Those things you say no one cares about are actually really important for all life, not just the little guys. Adapt is right, sir. We have to adapt to the fact that we fucked up the environment and we have to fix it. That's what adapting is. You want us to not adapt. You want us to do nothing. We can't go back to the way it was hundreds of years ago and no one wants to. We need to move forward on a good path. Doing nothing is not a solution. As for it not being to hot for us to survive, Actually yes it is. If we keep doing what we're doing, it won't be a hundred years before it's too hot for most of us to survive. What's this "second chance" business you're referring to. We are still on our first chance, because we didn't die out. Dinosaurs couldn't stop the that meteor shower, but we can stop destroying our earth.

There's a huge fucking difference between adapting to changes in the environment, and adapting the environment to suit us.  The first one is practically the definition of evolution, and the second one is just plain arrogance.

And do you have any idea what range of temperatures the average human body can thrive in?  We're pretty much a tropical species, and we're well-established all over the fucking planet.  The only places we don't particularly care to live are places that are just too damned cold.  And we can even manage those if we need to.

The human race is ridiculously adapatable, which is why we're now the domininant species on this planet.  We'll run out of fossil fuels well before we make this planet too globally warmed enough for us to survive on.

That's great... So how about the rest of the animal kingdom? You'd better hope they're as adaptable as we supposedly are.

Name: Anonymous 2009-01-17 23:39

Why should we care about the rest of the animal kingdom?  Species have been going extinct for billions of years, and the planet's still going strong.

more coal on Earth than oil

Let me see if i'm getting this straight:

1 ton of oxygen + 1 ton of coal, equals:
a) 1 ton of unburnt coal + 1 ton of air for you to breathe
or
b) 2 tons of CO2 + zero air for you to breathe. Not to mention such pleasantries as sulphuric gases, acid rain, or any other cute side-effects of burning all that coal just because you can.

(in short: C + O2 = CO2 + zero oxygen)

Ok, so they'll try stuffing that CO2 down into the ground, to minimise the greenhouse effect. It still equals zero breathable air.

Remember, the air is also finite. We've got 1 -one- planet's worth of fresh air available. When that's spent, it's spent.

Also, coal isn't just carbon, there's all kinds of shit there too, sulphur just being one. And that shit will phuxx0r most (if not all) of the plantlife that's supposed to take care of the carbon.

Enjoy your oxygen mask, Vader.

I've been arguing that we should privatise the atmosphere and place it under the control of US corporations for years. Then the rest of the world would have to pay us for using it.

Obvious troll is obvious.
If this was serious, the standard bs about how yankee-haters "don't like freedom" or any of that crap, would sound even more hollow. (protip: they tend to actually have good reasons)

Don't change these.
